The key is also installing the Geckolib plugin in Blockbench, which handles the integration with Minecraft.
To get started, use the official Point Blank template content pack as a base. This will provide a framework to build your custom gun. As long as you have a properly set model, the whole process of getting it into the game is straightforward.
