The vanilla swamp biome has always felt a little undercooked, with flat water, sparse trees, and not much to discover. Swampier Swamps is a world generation and content overhaul that turns those empty bogs into dense, atmospheric wetlands packed with new mobs, blocks, and mechanics built on top of the Wild Update additions.

What the mod adds to swamp biomes

The redesign touches nearly every layer of the biome. Frogs get a big content pass, the plant life grows denser, and entirely new structures and hazards show up as you explore. Most of the additions are also configurable, so you can dial back anything that feels too aggressive for your world.

Frogs, froglights, and dragonflies

13 new frog variants: Each frog gets its own colors and sizes, from small green and blue morphs up to larger yellow and orange ones. The variants are defined in a JSON file, which means you can edit them to match the look you want.

Dragonflies: These ambient mobs buzz around the water in a few sizes and colors, giving the swamp real movement and life.

13 new froglights: Froglights are the bouncy light blocks frogs already produce. The mod expands the set with thirteen new variants, so you have far more decorative lighting that doubles as a slimy, jump-friendly building block.

Lily pads, plants, and trees

2 new lily pads: Big and small lily pad variants join the vanilla one. Small lily pads need to be harvested with shears.

Sinking lily pads: Stand on a lily pad and it will slowly sink under your weight. The delay before it drops is adjustable in the config file.

The biome also gains cattails, swamp vines that can grow down into the water, and a lily pad growth system that makes pads a renewable resource you can harvest and replant. Vanilla swamp trees are replaced with new species like the bald cypress, and the ground picks up mud puddles and decaying logs for extra texture.

Swamp villages and fertile farmland

Swamp villages: Villages now generate inside swamps with their own style, giving you a reason to actually settle the biome instead of passing through.

Fertile farmland: A new farmland type that speeds up crop growth. Both the growth multiplier and the water hydration range can be tuned in the config.

Swamp gas, kelp, and the killer frog easter egg

A few of the more memorable additions are the ones that change how the biome feels to play in.

Swallow Me Waldo: Name a frog "Swallow Me Waldo" and it transforms into a killer frog that eats everything around it. It is a fun easter egg you can turn off in the config if it causes chaos.

Lily pad growth system: Pads can now be harvested and replanted, turning them into a renewable resource rather than a one-time pickup.
Cattails and swamp vines: Use bonemeal underwater in a swamp to grow cattails. Swamp vines replace vanilla vines here and can extend down into the water.
Swamp gas: Green clouds hover over the water and can be collected with an empty bottle. Walking through a cloud inflicts nausea and blindness, so collect carefully.
Decaying kelp: Kelp generates underwater and can also be created by leaving kelp blocks submerged to decay. Decayed kelp is the ingredient used to craft fertile farmland.
Frog legs: Frogs now drop one to two legs when killed.
Potion of Leaping rework: The leaping potion recipe now uses frog legs instead of rabbit paws, and rabbit paws are repurposed for potions of luck. This swap can be disabled in the config.
New swamp trees: Vanilla swamp oaks are swapped out for new species like the bald cypress.
Decorations: Mud puddles, decaying logs, and other small details round out the biome.

How to install Swampier Swamps

Installing the mod follows the same flow as any world generation addon. Pick the loader your modpack already uses, since mixing loaders in one profile does not work.

Does Swampier Swamps need any other mods to run?

Can I turn off features I do not like?

Do I need to start a new world?

Existing worlds work fine. New content like swamp villages, cattails, and bald cypress trees only generates in chunks you have not loaded yet, so head into unexplored swamp areas to see the full overhaul.
