The viral trend started from a single YouTube video and has since spawned an entire ecosystem of community adaptations across both Java and Bedrock editions.

What Is Verity?

Verity began as a concept from YouTuber ThatMob, who uploaded "Something is Knocking at Your Door..." on May 30, 2026. That video has amassed approximately 19.5 million views and depicts a deceptive entity named Verity. ThatMob has never released an official downloadable mod. Every Verity mod that exists is a community-created adaptation inspired by the video series.

The concept is simple and unsettling. Verity arrives at your spawn in a Cardboard Box. It appears as a cheerful yellow smiling sphere that answers your questions and follows you around. After a three-day countdown, it transforms into a hostile entity called The Anomaly. The Anomaly stalks and hunts you at night, culminating in a chase sequence and jumpscare.

The Numbers Behind the Phenomenon

PCGamesN reports that Verity-related community mods, addons, and modpacks have collectively surpassed 4.9 million downloads. This figure appears to be an aggregate across all Verity-related content, not a single mod's count. The largest single mod, Verity JE, showed 838.9K downloads as of July 12, 2026.

Multiple community implementations exist. Verity JE is the most prominent Java Edition mod, with its latest Forge version 5.6.0 released July 11, 2026 for MC 1.20.1, and a NeoForge version 3.4.1 from June 30, 2026 for MC 1.21.1. On Bedrock, PnTMC's Verity addon has been updated to "ThatMob's Verity 2.0.0," which includes chase scene updates and Verity escaping from chests. Several modpacks have also emerged, including Ultimate VERITY, VerityPack, and Survive from VERITY or FALSITY.
