The Tectonic Mod is a world-generation datapack and mod for Minecraft 1.20.6 that aims to transform how the terrain is shaped. It adds new terrain to the game, including mountain ranges, underground rivers, oceanside cliffs, smoother surfaces, dunes, and deeper oceans.
Terrain:
Mountain Ranges: Tectonic overhauls the way mountains generate, creating huge mountain ranges that can stretch for thousands of blocks and reach peaks above y300. These mountain ranges offer a new challenge for players to explore and conquer.
Underground Rivers: In mountainous terrain where regular river generation is not possible, Tectonic carves out underground rivers. These rivers link up to regular rivers, so players can continue exploring along them without interruption. Very deep underground, players can even find deeper variants of these rivers with lava instead of water.
Oceanside Cliffs: Steep cliff faces in the Stony Shore biome are carved into by waves and wind (Disclaimer: waves and wind not included.), creating a dramatic and realistic coastline.
Smoother Surfaces: One of the most notable changes to generation that players will see with Tectonic is smoother terrain. This means that the strange staircasing on some hills, also referred to as “lerp” issues, is gone. In previous versions of Tectonic, this meant that Windswept biomes were removed from generation, but in v2 and above they will once again generate.
Dunes: Smooth desert dunes now generate in some Desert biomes, giving them a special look.
Deeper Oceans: Oceans are much deeper than they are in vanilla, with deep oceans even extending into the deepslate layer!
