Doggo Mod Overhauled | Cute Dogs
Doggo Mod Overhauled gives Minecraft dogs real personality with fetch, naps, idle tricks, and craftable food bowls. A Fabric mod for true dog lovers.
What the Doggo Mod Overhauled actually changes
Vanilla Minecraft dogs are loyal but a little flat. The Doggo Mod Overhauled fixes that by turning tamed wolves into pets with genuine personality, adding craftable bowls, a throwable tennis ball for fetch, and a long list of small idle animations that make your companion feel alive. It is a complete rewrite of the older Doggo Mod, and one of its biggest wins is proper multiplayer compatibility, which was buggy in the original.
The mod is built for Fabric and needs the Fabric API to run. If you are new to modded Minecraft, the Fabric loader is a quick install, and our general Minecraft mod install guide walks through dropping a JAR into your mods folder. Because Fabric API is a hard requirement, it is worth keeping the matching Fabric API version handy as well.
Feeding your dog from a craftable bowl
Your companion takes damage in fights, and healing works two ways. You can right-click food directly onto the dog, or you can set down a dog bowl and fill it with food so the pet eats on its own schedule. Meat is the sensible choice. The bowl is crafted with any dye, and you can recolor it afterward, which gives you sixteen shades to match a base or kennel build.

Fetch, naps, and the small stuff dogs do
Dogs here hold items in their mouths. They lean toward food over weapons, which is worth knowing if you were picturing a battle hound carrying a sword into a cave.

Leave a dog sitting and walk off, and it will eventually lie down and nap. It is a small touch, but it sells the idea that the pet has its own routine while you are busy mining.

Fetch is the headline activity. Show the dog the ball first so it gets interested, then throw it and watch the chase. A tennis ball is craftable in four colors (red, yellow, lime, light blue) and can be recolored like the bowl.
Idle behavior rounds things out. A bored dog may scratch an ear, sniff the ground, or stretch. If it thinks it has scented something, it starts digging.

Dog beds, for now decorative
The mod also ships 176 dog beds, built from sixteen dye colors across eleven wood types. At present they are decoration blocks, with the author noting that real functionality is planned for a later release. They still look great lining a kennel or a cozy corner of your base.

Frequently asked questions
Does this mod replace wolves or just improve them? It improves them. Vanilla wolves are still in the game, and the changes layer on top of taming and breeding mechanics you already know.
Do dogs actually fight with this mod? Combat works much like vanilla. Dogs will still defend you, but their standout additions are personality and play, not battle buffs. They prefer carrying food over weapons, so do not expect a sword-wielding war dog.
Is the dog bed functional? Not yet. Right now it is a decorative block. The project page lists deeper bed functionality as a future goal, though there is no fixed date for it.
Is Doggo Mod Overhauled still being maintained? No. The project is archived and the last release dates to 2023, so it will not receive further updates unless the author decides to unarchive it. It still works on the older game versions it targets, but there is no new development and no planned updates for current Minecraft releases. Check the project page for any change in status.
Can I use it on a multiplayer server? Yes. Multiplayer compatibility was one of the main reasons for the rewrite, and it works on both client and server sides when every player runs the mod.
