Apollyon is a Forge horror mod for Minecraft built around a single, dangerous idea: drop something into your world that genuinely hunts you. Created by GamerCraftZ, it pairs a stalking hostile mob with a lore-driven structure and a cursed villager, so the scares come from behavior and atmosphere rather than a health bar. If you want tension that builds the longer you survive a night, this mod leans into exactly that.

The Damned, a Hunter That Watches Before It Strikes

The Damned is the centerpiece of Apollyon. It spawns in dark areas, on the surface at night and down in caves, and wanders aimlessly until you wander too close. The moment you cross its detection range it stops, turns to face you, smiles, and raises a bony finger to mark the start of the chase. That tiny pause before the pursuit is what makes the mob memorable, because you get just enough time to realize you have been seen before it runs you down.

The Damned is killable. When it dies it gets pulled into the ground and leaves a Wither Rose behind, so there is a small reward for facing it instead of just running.

The Infector and the Council Room

The Infector is the second face of the mod. You find this injured villager inside the Council Room, an abandoned structure that exists purely to set the scene. Right-click him and he speaks under the name "Villager #32", telling a quiet, sad story that doubles as lore for the whole mod.

The story does not end well. After his final warning to leave, the Infector starts to shake and a tougher, more spider-like variant of the Damned bursts out of him and attacks anything nearby. An advancement fires as it escapes, flatly announcing that an infection has begun in your world. From that point the threat follows you home.

Here's a short video featuring infector dialogue and transformation.

A Third Entity and a Few Survival Items

The mod also adds a third entity, the Fallen, alongside a small set of items tied to surviving its encounters. Sustenance, the Rose of Life, and the Stew of Life give you ways to recover after a chase goes badly, so the horror stays tense without becoming a softlock. The item names are deliberately vague, and discovering what each one does is part of the experience.

Installing Apollyon

Apollyon is a Forge mod, so the setup is the standard Forge workflow rather than anything custom.

  1. Install a compatible Forge build for your game version. If you have not done this before, the Forge installation guide walks through it step by step.
  2. Drop the Apollyon JAR into your mods folder.
  3. Launch the game through the Forge profile and load a world.

For the broader workflow, including where the mods folder lives and how to keep multiple add-ons from clashing, the how to install Minecraft mods overview covers the shared steps. There are no required dependency mods, so Apollyon runs on its own.

Apollyon Mod FAQ

What does Apollyon add to Minecraft? Three hostile entities (the Damned, the Infector, and the Fallen), the Council Room structure where the Infector is found, and a handful of survival items. The Damned is the main threat, while the Infector is a lore event that triggers an infection in your world.

How do I install Apollyon? It is a Forge mod. Install Forge, drop the JAR into your mods folder, and launch with the Forge profile. No extra dependency mods are required.

Can the Damned be killed? Yes. When the Damned dies it is pulled into the ground and drops a Wither Rose, so fighting back is a real option once you learn its behavior.

Is Apollyon still being maintained? The last release is from November 2025 (the Act Two update). That is recent, but you should check the project page for the current status before building a long-term world around it.

Is Apollyon a good fit for a survival world? It works best as a horror layer over a normal survival playthrough. Pair it with another tense add-on like the horror elements mod or the Weeping Angels mod if you want a world that stays genuinely scary after the first night.
