How Aerial TNT Bombing Works

The Elytra Bombing mod lets you drop primed TNT while gliding, turning a peaceful flight across your world into a full-scale aerial bombing run. Once you are fall-flying with elytra equipped, the mod checks a short list of conditions each time you right-click, and if everything lines up it spawns a primed TNT block directly beneath you.

To trigger a drop you need three things in your inventory and one status condition. You must be actively fall-flying with elytra wings equipped, hold an igniter such as flint and steel or a fire charge, and carry at least one TNT block. TNT also needs to be off cooldown, so you cannot simply spray explosives in a single frame.

Meet all of those and right-click while gliding. A primed TNT spawns below you, falls with your forward momentum, and detonates when it hits the ground or any block in its path. Because the TNT inherits your flight speed, a fast glide lets you lay a trail across a wide area in seconds, while a steep dive drops a single concentrated charge onto one target.

The result is a completely new way to use elytra flight. You can soften up a woodland mansion before you breach it, strip away terrain for a build site, or just settle a grudge from a safe altitude.

Configurable Bombing Behavior

The mod is built around three config values that shape how bombing actually feels in play. Fuse time controls how long the TNT ticks before it blows, so a short fuse turns dives into quick strike attacks and a long fuse lets bombs drift farther before landing. Cooldown time gates how often you can release, which keeps spam manageable on a shared server. TNT inertia sets how much of your momentum the dropped TNT carries, letting you tune whether bombs land almost directly below or sail ahead of you.

Installing the Elytra Bombing Mod

Installing it follows the standard Forge mod workflow. Make sure you are running a compatible Minecraft version with Forge (or the matching NeoForge build) installed, then drop the mod JAR into your mods folder and launch the game. If you have never set up a modded profile before, the how to install Minecraft mods walkthrough covers Forge setup from scratch, and the Minecraft Forge guide explains the launcher side. The source repo on GitHub under the Nova-Committee organization tracks issues and config defaults if you need a reference while tuning behavior.

A separate Fabric build exists on its own project page, so pick the JAR that matches your loader rather than mixing the two.

Compatibility and Modpack Use

The Elytra Bombing mod is lightweight and carries no required dependencies, so it slots into most modpacks without friction. The author explicitly allows modpack inclusion, so pack authors can bundle it freely. It plays well alongside other flight and movement mods, and it pairs nicely with traversal overhauls like Blast Travel Reborn or HUD helpers like the Elytra HUD mod when you want instrument feedback during a run.

FAQ

How do I trigger a TNT drop mid-flight?

Glide with elytra equipped, keep an igniter such as flint and steel or a fire charge in your inventory, and carry at least one TNT block with no cooldown active. Right-click while fall-flying and a primed TNT spawns below you.

Can I tune how the TNT behaves?

Yes. Fuse time, bombing cooldown, and TNT inertia are all exposed in the config, so you can balance strike speed, spam rate, and how far bombs travel before impact.

Is the mod still being maintained?

The mod is still being updated, with new releases shipping as recently as May 2026. There is no fixed schedule, so check the project page for the latest files before relying on it for a fresh world.

Can I include it in a modpack?

Yes. The author permits modpack inclusion, and the mod is AGPLv3 licensed, so pack authors can bundle and ship it freely.

Does it work alongside other elytra mods?

In general yes. It has no required dependencies and only hooks the fall-flying state, so it coexists with most flight and movement mods without conflicts.
