Treasure pots turn every caving trip into a small gamble in Realm RPG: Pots & Mimics. The mod drops medieval-style pots across the Overworld, the Nether and the End, then hides loot, mimic crabs, or both inside them. It was built for the Play as Dragon Gothic Edition modpack, but it works as a standalone adventure add-on in any Forge modpack that wants a little extra risk underground.

What the Pots & Mimics mod does

Pots & Mimics is part of the Realm RPG series, a set of vanilla-friendly medieval fantasy additions. It does not add new biomes or block types. Instead it scatters breakable treasure pots through cave systems, Nether fortresses and End cities. Walk up, smash a pot, and see what happens. Most hold random loot like rare materials or enchanted books. A few hold a pot crab that was waiting inside, ready to ambush whoever reached in.

Pot crabs by region

The mimics come in four regional flavors, and each one fights differently. The common Overworld pot crab is the weakest, more of a jump scare than a real threat. Poison pot crabs add venom glands to the ambush, so the bite keeps hurting after the fight. Nether pot crabs live near lava and hit with fiery attacks that can burn you down fast. Ender pot crabs are the cruellest of the set, since they knock you toward the void rather than trading blows. The animations rely on GeckoLib, so keep that dependency installed or the crabs will not render correctly.

Where the pots spawn

Generation is not locked to vanilla dimensions or biomes. The mod places pots wherever the world allows, so it plays nicely with biome-adding mods and custom dimensions. If your modpack adds new cave systems or End islands, the pots follow the terrain there too. You do not need to configure anything for that to happen.

How to install Pots & Mimics

This is a Forge mod, so install Forge on your Minecraft launcher first. Drop the Pots & Mimics jar into your mods folder along with GeckoLib, which the mod needs for its crab animations. Load the profile, open or create a world, and start exploring. The pots show up naturally as you mine and travel. For a full walkthrough of the folder setup, see the Minecraft Forge install guide.

Pair it with other Realm RPG entries like Realm RPG: Archers for more medieval fantasy content, or Irons RPG Tweaks if you want the RPG feel without new mobs.

Pots & Mimics FAQ

Is Pots & Mimics still being maintained? The last release on the project page is from October 2023. It runs on the version it was built for, but no new updates have shipped since. Check the project page for the current status before adding it to a fresh world.

Does it need any dependencies? Yes, GeckoLib. The crab animations depend on it, so the mod will not load cleanly without it.

Can I use it in a modpack? Yes. It was made for a specific modpack but is free to include in your own. Because pots generate freely, it stacks well with biome and dimension mods.

Do the pots break blocks when they spawn? No. Pots are placed as decorative containers in valid empty spaces, so they will not carve holes in your terrain.

Is it client-side or server-side? Both sides need it. New entities and generation run on the server, and the client needs the assets and GeckoLib to render the crabs.
