Animalistic | Summonable Pets Mod
Animalistic is a Forge mod that lets you summon tameable, rideable pets through a crafting ritual with gems, soul bottles, and a summoning table.
Animalistic is a Forge mod built around one idea, summoning your own team of magical pets. Instead of wandering the world hoping to tame a wolf or a parrot, you craft the creatures yourself with gems, soul bottles, and a summoning table. Many of them can be mounted, flown, or ridden into water, and nearly every one will fight for you when trouble shows up. The trade-off is setup work, because each animal needs its own recipe before you can call it into the world.
Summon a Companion at the Summoning Table
Everything starts with the Summoning Table. Craft it, place it down, and it becomes the gateway you use to pull creatures into your world.

Each animal is tied to its own gem, so the materials you gather decide which creature you can summon.

The ingredient that ties most recipes together is the Soul Bottle. To make one, right-click a water bottle on a block of soul sand.

Once you have the gem, a mount item, and a soul bottle, lay all three on the Summoning Table and press the Generate button. Right-click the creature that appears to tame it, and it will follow you from then on.
The Creatures You Can Summon
The roster leans into variety, with land mounts, flyers, and aquatic companions all covered. Below is what each one brings to your world.
Red Panda
A small, adorable mount that jumps with the space bar and fights off enemies for you. Feed it bamboo and sugar cane.

Tiger
A strong feline mount that handles both travel and combat. While riding, press G to attack nearby enemies. It eats any kind of meat.

Blue Bird
A flying mount that lifts off with the space key. It defends you in a fight and feeds on carrots, potatoes, or beets.

Duck
A loyal follower that cannot be ridden but carries a chest for extra storage. It defends you and eats all kinds of seeds.

Alpha Bat
A flying mount that grants night vision when you press G. It feeds on spider eyes and holds its own against threats.

Mystic Owl
A mount that leaps high and glides when you double-tap space. It defends you and eats uncooked meat.

Mechanic Wolf
A mechanical mount that jumps with space and fires a ranged attack on V. Feed it meat, bone, or iron to keep it loyal.

Nymph Bird
A flying mount that eats seeds and guards its owner reliably.

Secretary Bird
It cannot fly, but it outruns almost anything on land. A fast mount that eats seeds and defends you.

Ferret
An agile mount that jumps with space and attacks with V. Feed it chicken or rabbit.

Sloth
It cannot be ridden, but it tags along faithfully and eats grass and leaves. Feeding it berries grants you night vision, and it will defend you when things get rough.

Shark
An aquatic mount that works in and out of water. Ride it in water and you gain the ability to breathe underwater. It eats any kind of meat.

Blue Dragon (Glaucus atlanticus)
A fast swimmer you can ride in and out of water. It feeds on sea grass, seaweed, and sea cucumber.

Spider
A spidery mount that leaps high and glides down. It feeds on chorus fruit.

How to Install Animalistic
This is a Forge mod, so it needs a Forge install to run. If you have not set one up yet, walk through the Forge setup guide first. Once Forge is installed, you also need GeckoLib, the animation library Animalistic depends on, dropped into the same mods folder.
Drop both JAR files into your mods folder, launch the game with the Forge profile, and the Summoning Table recipe plus the gems will be available in your survival world. The mod runs on both client and server, so anyone joining your world will need it installed too.
If creature mods are your thing, you might also enjoy Duckling or the larger roster in Critters and Companions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I summon a creature in Animalistic?
Craft a Summoning Table, then place a gem, a mount item, and a soul bottle on it. Press the Generate button to spawn the creature, then right-click it to tame it.
How do I get a soul bottle?
Right-click a water bottle on a block of soul sand. Soul bottles are used across most of the summoning recipes, so stock up on sand.
Does Animalistic need another mod to run?
Yes. GeckoLib is required for the models and animations, and you need a matching loader. Both JAR files go in your mods folder together.
Can every creature be ridden?
Most of them can, but not all. The Duck and the Sloth cannot be ridden. The Duck instead carries a chest for extra storage, and the Sloth follows you and grants night vision when fed berries.
Is Animalistic still being updated?
The last release landed in January 2024, so the project has been quiet for a while now. The creatures and recipes still work as described, but check the project page for any current status before building a long-term world around it.
