Cloro's Gravity Gun Mod drops the signature weapon from Half-Life 2 straight into Minecraft and hands you three toys built around it. The gravity gun lets you pick mobs up and hurl them across the map. A supercharged variant hits harder and adds impact explosions. A displacer cannon opens portals so you (or anything you can grab) can blink between two points. It is a physics sandbox mod built for chaos, not balance.

Grabbing and Launching Mobs with the Gravity Gun

The gravity gun is the centerpiece of the mod. Hold it in your main hand, aim at a mob, and right-click to grab it. The entity follows your cursor while you hold the button, so you can reposition it, dangle it over a cliff, or set up a shot. Right-click again to release the entity in place.

To launch a held entity instead, left-click and it rockets in the direction you are looking. There are a few limits baked in by design. The gravity gun cannot move solid blocks, minecarts (TNT minecarts being the one exception), or boats, and the grab behaviour can behave inconsistently on multiplayer servers.

Supercharged Gravity Gun

The supercharged variant is the same weapon turned up to eleven. It launches entities much further than the base gun, and anything it throws explodes on impact. That makes it less a tool for repositioning mobs and more a way to weaponize them, since a Creeper or a zombie becomes a living projectile with a blast attached.

Teleporting with the Displacer Cannon

The displacer cannon is the second half of the mod and it works on a simple portal logic. Right-click once to open a portal, right-click again to open a second one, and right-click a third time to clear both. Walk into either portal and you teleport to the other. The same trick works on any entity, so you can send mobs through a portal just as easily as you can send yourself.

There can only be two portals active in the same dimension at once, so the cannon is best used as a quick escape or a way to drop a hostile mob somewhere far from you.

Tool Gun: Editing Entities and the World

The third item is the tool gun, and it is closer to a creative-mode remote control than a weapon. Each mode rewrites a property of whatever you point it at.

  • Gravity mode toggles gravity on an entity or block.
  • Push mode shoves a mob in the direction you are looking.
  • Leader and Minion modes let you mark one entity as a leader and another as a follower.
  • Delete mode removes any entity or block outright.
  • Speed+ / Speed- raise or lower an entity's base speed.
  • Health+ / Health- adjust an entity's max health.
  • Damage+ / Damage- adjust an entity's base damage.
  • Step+ / Step- change how high an entity can step up, similar to how horses climb blocks.
  • Explode mode detonates a blast wherever you aim.

It is a sandbox tinkerer's tool more than a survival item, and it pairs well with the gravity gun when you want to set up elaborate scenarios.

Crafting and Installing the Mod

The gravity gun is not handed to you for free. You craft it with a nether star, two ghast tears, two redstone blocks, one copper block, and three iron blocks, so it sits firmly at the expensive end of the survival progression curve.

Installing the mod is the standard Forge drill. Set up a Forge profile first, then drop the jar into your mods folder. If you want a broader walkthrough of that process, our guide to installing Minecraft mods covers it step by step. The mod needs the GeckoLib library installed alongside it or the guns will not load, so grab that dependency too. Because the mod is Forge-only, you cannot drop it into a Fabric or Quilt setup.

If the portal mechanics are what you are here for, Immersive Portals is a natural companion to pair it with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the gravity gun move blocks?

No. The gun only affects entities. Solid blocks, minecarts (with the exception of TNT minecarts), and boats are immune to the grab effect, which keeps the mod from turning into a straight world-edit tool.

Does the mod work on multiplayer servers?

It runs, but the grab and launch behaviour can behave inconsistently on multiplayer. Expect occasional desync when you are flinging entities around with other players watching.

Is Cloro's Gravity Gun still being updated?

The last release shipped in January 2024 (Release 1.3.1), and the author has stated the mod will not receive further updates or patches. The project is being remade from scratch as a separate mod called Chaos Gadgets, which is already public, so check the project page for the current status of that remake if you want something newer.

What do I need installed for the mod to work?

You need Forge and the GeckoLib library. Without GeckoLib the guns will not load at all.

Is the gravity gun craftable in survival?

Yes. It is a late-game craft that needs a nether star, ghast tears, redstone blocks, a copper block, and iron blocks, so you will not be firing it on day one.
