Hellion's Sniffer+ Mod | Sniffer Overhaul
Hellion's Sniffer+ Mod for Minecraft expands the ancient Sniffer mob with riding, chest storage, banner navigation, new plants and the Timeless Grotto biome.
The Sniffer won the Minecraft mob vote and then mostly wandered around digging up torchflower seeds. Hellion's Sniffer+ Mod for Minecraft turns that gentle ancient creature into something genuinely useful, adding mount mechanics, portable storage, a navigation trick, and a whole cave biome full of new plants to discover. It is a Sniffer overhaul built for players who want the mob to pull its weight.

What the Sniffer Can Now Do
The core of the mod is a set of new Sniffer behaviors that make the mob interactive in ways vanilla never attempted.
Saddling and Riding a Sniffer
Sniffers can be saddled and ridden like a horse. Hop on, steer, and let your ancient beast carry you across biomes instead of leaving it pacing a pen back home.

Chest Storage on a Sniffer
Equip a chest on a Sniffer and it becomes a walking pack animal. Any seeds the Sniffer digs up while sniffing get dropped straight into that chest inventory, so you no longer have to chase the mob around picking up torchflower seeds by hand. Open the chest while riding to grab what you need.

Ominous Banner Navigation
Hand a Sniffer an Ominous Banner and it will carry the banner and lead you toward the nearest Pillager Outpost. It is a surprisingly handy way to locate outposts without aimless wandering, and it fits the Sniffer's "ancient creature rediscovers the world" theme.

New Plants and the Timeless Grotto
Hellion's Sniffer+ does not stop at the mob itself. It adds a small bundle of Sniffer themed content that expands the world underneath your feet.
The Timeless Grotto is a new cave biome where all of the mod's plant life grows naturally. Track it down underground and you will find a quiet, overgrown space that feels distinct from Minecraft's usual caves.

Plants added by the mod include:
- Ivy, for decorative climbing greenery
- Stone Pine Trees, a full new wood set you can harvest and build with
- Fiddleferns, a new fern variety for flooring and landscaping
One small but welcome tweak rounds out the plant content. Torchflowers now actually emit light, which finally earns the "torch" half of their name and makes them useful for mood lighting in builds.

How to Install Hellion's Sniffer+
The mod runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, so pick whichever loader your pack already uses. The install flow is the same as any single jar mod.
- Install your preferred loader first. If you need a refresher, the Minecraft Fabric guide or the Minecraft Forge guide walks through the setup step by step.
- Download the jar that matches your loader and drop it into your
modsfolder. - Launch the game with that loader profile and load a world.
If you have never installed a mod before, the how to install Minecraft mods walkthrough covers the mods folder and profile basics in more detail. The mod works on both client and server, so make sure everyone on a multiplayer world has it installed.
Hellion's Sniffer+ FAQ
Do I need any other mods for it to work?
No required dependencies are listed. Install your loader, drop in the jar, and you are good to go. It does not rely on a library mod to function.
Will the Sniffer still dig up torchflower seeds?
Yes. The vanilla sniffing behavior stays intact, the mod just builds on top of it. With a chest equipped, the dug up seeds land in the Sniffer's inventory instead of on the ground.
Where do I find the Timeless Grotto?
It generates underground like other cave biomes. Explore caves at varying depths and you will eventually run into the overgrown, plant filled atmosphere that sets it apart from standard caves.
Can I use the new Stone Pine wood for building?
Yes. Stone Pine Trees are a full wood set, meaning you get logs, planks, and the usual crafting chain you would expect from any Minecraft tree type.
Is the mod still being updated?
The project is a solo effort and the developer has shared that work happens in their free time. Releases have slowed, but the existing builds are stable for the versions they target. If you hit a bug, the source repo is the right place to report it.
