Language Reload | Switch Languages Instantly
Language Reload swaps Minecraft languages instantly with no resource pack reload, plus a language search box, fallbacks, and multilingual item search.
The first thing you notice after installing Language Reload is the language menu. You get a search box at the top, and picking a language applies it right away instead of sitting through a full resource pack reload. That is the whole idea behind the mod, a small quality-of-life tweak that has picked up around 44 million downloads since 2021. It is still actively maintained today.
Instant Language Switching and F3 + J Shortcuts
In vanilla, changing your language triggers a full reload of your resource packs. On a setup with several packs, that wait is long enough that most players avoid switching at all. Language Reload swaps translations without reloading your resource packs, so the change lands almost as fast as you can click it. If you like checking how text looks in another language while you build, this alone makes it practical.
Two shortcuts round the feature out. Press F3 + J to reload your active languages at any time.
Press Shift + F3 + J to cycle through every language you have selected. If you regularly bounce between two or three languages, you can flip between them without ever opening the menu.
Language Search and Fallback Stacking
The vanilla language list is long, and scrolling through it to find one entry gets old fast. Language Reload adds a search box to the language menu, so you type a few letters and the list filters down immediately.
You can also select more than one language at a time. The stack works top down, and each translation in a language overrides translations from languages below it. In practice, that means you keep your main language at the top and put backups underneath, so missing strings fall back instead of showing up untranslated. As one extra convenience, if there is no lang entry in your options.txt, the mod detects your language automatically.
Multilingual Item Search in Creative and the Recipe Book
With several languages selected, searching stops being a one-language affair. The creative inventory search and the recipe book search match item names in any of your selected languages. If you learned the game in one language but play in another, you can still type the names you know and find your items. You are not stuck with the behavior either. Multilingual item search can be switched off in the mod options, which you open through Mod Menu, or by editing the mod's config file directly.

How to Install Language Reload
Language Reload runs on Fabric and Quilt. There is no Forge or NeoForge build, so skip this one if your setup needs those loaders. It is a client side mod, so the server never needs it.
- Set up a loader first. Our Fabric guide walks you through the whole process, and Quilt Loader works the same way with the same mods folder.
- Download Fabric API and drop it into your mods folder. It is a required dependency on every version of Language Reload.
- Optional but recommended: install Mod Menu. It gives you an in-game options screen. Without it, you configure the mod by editing the config file instead.
- Download Language Reload from the official project page. The file name ends with the game version it targets, so grab the build that matches yours.
- Put the jar in your mods folder and launch the game.
FAQ
Is Language Reload client side or server side?
Client side. Your own installation is all that matters, servers do not support it and do not need it, and other players are unaffected.
Does Language Reload affect performance?
Its whole purpose is trimming wasted time. Language changes happen without a full resource pack reload, which is why it sits in the optimization category next to performance mods. The jar itself is tiny, roughly 79 KB.
Can I turn off multilingual item search?
Yes. Open the mod options through Mod Menu, or edit the mod's config file directly if you do not run Mod Menu.
Is Language Reload still maintained?
Yes. Jerozgen develops it, the latest release came out in October 2026, and the source code is on GitHub under the MIT license. It has been around since September 2021.
Language Reload is one of those mods you stop noticing until you play without it. If you are rounding out a client setup, our guide on how to install Minecraft mods covers the general process, and picks like ModernFix and Vanilla Refresh target other quality-of-life gaps.
