The First City | MrBeast Dimension Mod
The First City mod opens the Ancient City portal in Minecraft to a new dimension built for MrBeast. Activate it with a Warden Key and explore.
The First City is a story-driven Minecraft mod that finally answers a question players have asked since the Deep Dark arrived. What sits behind the reinforced deepslate portal in the Ancient City? This mod unlocks that gateway and sends you into a hand-built mystery dimension. It was commissioned for a MrBeast video, which is why the encounter inside feels so theatrical and over the top.
You do not stumble into this content by chance. To open the portal you need a Warden's Key, which only drops when you kill a Warden in the Deep Dark. The key goes onto a new activation pedestal placed right in front of the portal, in the city center. Step through and you are committed, because once the portal opens it cannot be closed again.

Setting Up Before You Open The Portal
This is not a drop-in mod you add to an existing survival world. The creators built it as a single, self-contained adventure meant to be played once on a fresh world with only its required dependencies. Mixing it into a long-running modpack will break things.
A few settings are mandatory for the dimension to render and behave correctly. The hard floor is a 16 chunk simulation and render distance, and you really want 32 chunks on both if your hardware can hold it. Set Fancy graphics, not Fabulous, and turn view bobbing off so the set pieces land the way they were designed. On a server you also need allow-flight=true in server.properties. For a smoother group run, enable immediate respawn and keep inventory so nobody gets stranded far from the action.

Gear matters too. Hand everyone enchanted diamond armor, a sword, and plenty of food before you descend. Leave the pickaxe at home, because there is no mining inside the dimension. Exploration and survival are the focus, not digging.

If you have never set up a modded world before, the general Minecraft mod install guide walks through the Fabric loader and mods folder step by step.
How The Run Plays Out
The whole experience is short by design. A group that sticks together can finish it in well under an hour, and speedrunners push that even lower. The fun is in the spectacle, not the runtime.

Eternis Dimensional Devourer
The centerpiece fight is the Eternis Dimensional Devourer, a large eye-like boss that anchors the second half of the run. Treat it as a group encounter. Spread damage, watch the telegraphs, and keep your party revived.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open the portal?
Kill a Warden in the Deep Dark to get a Warden's Key, then use the key on the pedestal in front of the Ancient City portal. The whole group should stand next to the pedestal when it activates.
Can I add other mods alongside it?
No. The creators are explicit that you should run it alone with only its required dependencies. Adding anything else risks rendering problems and broken encounters.
Do I need a server, or can I play solo?
Both work. It runs client and server side, and the recommended gamerules for immediate respawn and keep inventory apply the same way in single player and on a server.
Why is it called the MrBeast mod?
Refresh Studios built it specifically for a MrBeast video, where his crew played through the dimension. That commissioned origin is why the encounter is so polished and cinematic.
Is it a long experience?
Not really. The run is short and meant to be played once on a fresh world. Treat it as a one-shot adventure rather than ongoing content.
