What Trep's Cars adds to your world

Trep's Cars is a Fabric vehicle mod built around one idea, giving you a car you can actually drive and slide around corners. Instead of dropping a finished car into your inventory, it makes you work for the machine. You mine a new steel ore, smelt the metal, shape a body, bolt on wheels, pick a paint color, and finally pull a key that summons your ride. The whole loop turns a vehicle from an item into a project you built yourself.

The standout trick is the drift. Hold a dedicated key mid corner and the back end steps out, letting you string turns together the way you would in an arcade racer. Pair that with car health, component crafting, and full paint customization, and you have a compact mod that punches above its size.

Crafting your first car

Everything starts at the Car Crafting Table, a special station you build from wooden planks and a regular crafting table. Open it and you get a dedicated layout for assembling a vehicle rather than juggling recipes in a 2x2 grid.

Steel and car bodies

The mod adds its own steel ore. Dig down, mine it, then combine raw iron, blaze powder, and charcoal to make raw steel. Smelt that into steel ingots, the backbone material for a sturdy car body.

Wheels and paint

A body needs something to roll on. Craft wheels from a steel ingot and black wool, then add personality with paint. Each paint can is just a can paired with any default dye, so you can color match your car to your base or go loud with neon shades.

Pulling the key

Load the body and the paint can into the Car Crafting Table in the right slots and it spits out a key. That key carries the details of the car it represents, so keep it safe. Cheaper car types also exist if you want to skip the full steel build.

Driving and drifting

Place the key by left clicking to spawn your car. Made a mistake or want to move it? Use the wrench and shift right click to pick it back up.

Hop in by clicking the car. Drive with W and S for forward and reverse, and steer with A and D. The camera stays in freelook, so you can glance around while you cruise.

The drift is the fun part. Hold the drift key, which defaults to Left Alt and can be rebound, then steer into the turn. The car breaks traction and slides, letting you chain corners or show off around your base.

Car health and what can wreck it

Cars are not invincible. Fire, drowning, and falls taller than ten blocks will chip away at your vehicle, and if its health hits zero the car is destroyed. Short drops of ten blocks or less are safe, and splash potions mostly bounce off, with the exception of Instant Damage.

Installing Trep's Cars

This is a Fabric mod, so set up Fabric first and drop the jar into your mods folder. It also needs two companion libraries to run, GeckoLib for the vehicle animations and the Fabric API for the underlying Fabric hooks. Install both before you launch, or the car crafting table will not load.
