Sleep Tight | Sleeping Overhaul Mod
Sleep Tight is a Minecraft sleeping overhaul that adds hammocks, night bags, bedbugs, nightmares, and a home bed reward system you can tune in the configs.
A Smarter Way to Sleep in Minecraft
Vanilla beds are a bit of a no-brainer. You place one down the moment it gets dark, skip the entire mob-filled night, and repeat forever. The Sleep Tight mod reworks that loop so resting feels like a real decision instead of a reflex. It slows down early game skipping, rewards you for committing to one home bed, and layers in genuine danger like nightmares and bedbugs. Everything is heavily configurable, so if you only came for the hammocks you can turn the hard parts off and keep the cozy stuff.
Hammocks for Daytime Rest
Hammocks are the headline feature for players who just want a laid-back addition. String one between two fences with a couple of blocks of gap, or prop it against a three-block space, and you can lie down during the day. Once you are in, tap your left or right movement key to swing gently back and forth. They come in every color, so they double as decoration for a porch or base.

Night Bags, for Sleeping Anywhere
Night bags are a late-game camping item. Craft them with echo shards and phantom membrane, then use one to drop straight into sleep on the spot, even in the Nether. They never set your spawn point, and they hop back into your inventory when you wake up. The trade-off is that they give none of the usual sleep benefits and they will not stop phantoms from spawning, so they are a convenience tool rather than a replacement bed.

Bedbugs Can Infest Your Bed
Play on a high difficulty and bedbugs become a real threat. They have a rare chance to spawn right after you sleep, and they sprint for the nearest bed to burrow inside. Once infested, that bed is useless until you splash a potion of harming on it. You will usually hear one skittering around when you wake, so keep your ears open and your bedroom well lit. They can slip through doors, and wild ones will even attack you if no beds are nearby.

Home Beds and the Invigorated Effect
This is the reward side of the rework. Sleep in the same bed at least eight times and it becomes your home bed. From then on, waking up there grants the Invigorated effect, which boosts experience drops from ores and mobs for a good while. Keep using that bed and the home bed level keeps climbing, up to a cap of 100. The catch is that breaking the bed or letting bedbugs infest it resets the counter back to zero, so there is real incentive to defend your bedroom.

Sleep Encounters and Nightmares
Two mechanics bring the danger back to sleeping. Sleep encounters can trigger when you rest next to a dark spot, waking you with a mob that could have spawned there. No more dozing off safely in an unlit cave. Nightmares, meanwhile, grow more likely the more consecutive nights you sleep, and a bad one will yank you awake mid-night and hit you with a longer cooldown.

Lie Down Without Sleeping
A small but lovely quality-of-life change. You can now lie on a bed or hammock without actually sleeping, which lets you move the camera freely and open your inventory while resting. The sleep screen shows the current time in the corner, and a status bar under your crosshair tracks any cooldown. Beds also stop exploding violently in the Nether, instead making a tiny blast that you can disable entirely if you want to sleep down there in peace.

Tuning Sleep Benefits and Requirements
Almost every rule is adjustable in the config, and each setting can be flipped per bed type, so beds, hammocks, and night bags can behave differently. The defaults and options you can toggle include:
- Sleeping requires full hunger (off by default)
- Sleeping requires an experience toll (default zero)
- Sleeping grants a status effect (Invigorated, home beds only)
- Heal when woken up (on by default)
- Clear all effects when woken up (on by default)
- Consume hunger when woken up (on by default)
How to Install Sleep Tight
Installing this mod is the same process as any other Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge content mod. Pick the loader you already run, drop the matching JAR into your mods folder, and launch the game. If you are new to modded Minecraft, our how to install Minecraft mods walkthrough covers the full setup, and the Minecraft Fabric guide helps if you want to start fresh on Fabric. There are no required dependencies, so a clean install works straight away. You may also like the Carpeted Stairs and Slabs mod, another build-focused release from the same author.
Sleep Tight FAQ
Can I turn off the difficult features and just keep the hammocks?
Yes. The mod is built to be entirely configurable. Switch off nightmares, bedbugs, encounters, and every sleep requirement in the config file and you are left with the relaxed parts like hammocks and daytime rest.
How do I clear bedbugs out of a bed?
Throw a potion of harming directly onto the infested bed. The best habit is to listen for them when you wake up and hunt them down before they spread, since they head straight for any bed in range.
Does this work on multiplayer servers?
It does. Nightmare chances are rolled for the whole group on a nightmare night, and only the player who actually had the nightmare takes the cooldown. Other players keep sleeping normally.
Is Sleep Tight still being maintained?
Yes. The most recent releases landed in March 2026, with fixes and additions across the active branches. Check the project page for the latest version and current status.
