CMDCam | Cinematic Camera Mod
CMDCam is a Minecraft cinematic camera mod that builds smooth flyover paths with zoom, roll, and follow target for great timelapses and trailers.
CMDCam turns Minecraft into a director's toolkit. It lets you plot a series of camera points and glide between them on a smooth path, so you can frame flyovers, sweeping pans, and dramatic zooms without the jerky hand of manual recording. The mod is built by CreativeMD and pairs naturally with timelapse work, server trailers, and machinima.

What CMDCam Does
At its core CMDCam registers waypoints in your world, then interpolates the camera between them. You drop a point, move, drop another, and the mod handles the glide. Between those points you can add zoom, roll the camera on its side, and pick how the path curves from one spot to the next.
The standout trick is "outside" mode. Normally a camera path flies an empty viewpoint around, but outside mode lets you run the camera while still controlling your player. That means you can act in the shot and direct it at the same time, which is what makes the mod so useful for scripted scenes.
A few key mechanics:
- Smooth paths between any number of saved points, with no stutter between frames.
- Roll and zoom bound to keys, so you can tilt the horizon or push in mid-move.
- Follow target that locks onto a block or entity, letting the camera track a mob or player while still following its route.
- Interpolation choices (linear, cosine, cubic, hermite, circular) that change how the camera eases through each point.
- Server scenes you can save, replay, and trigger for other players with
/cam-servercommands.
One thing to keep in mind. CMDCam drives the camera, it does not capture the video. You still need an external recording tool such as OBS or the Replay Mod to save the footage.
Setting Up Your First Camera Path
Building a shot is mostly keys and a couple of commands. The default flow:
- Walk to your starting position and press P to add a point.
- Move to the next spot and press P again. Repeat for as many points as you want.
- Press U to play the path back (the default run time is 10 seconds).
- While playing, hold V to zoom in, N to zoom out, B to reset zoom, and use G, J, H to roll left, right, and reset.
You can also use commands for finer control. /cam add registers a point at your exact coordinates, /cam set <index> updates a point, /cam target <self> locks the camera onto yourself, and /cam interpolation <type> swaps how the path curves. Save a finished route with /cam save <name> and bring it back later with /cam load <name>, since paths are stored per world.
Installing CMDCam
CMDCam runs on Forge and NeoForge and needs CreativeCore as a required library, so grab both files. If you have never set up a modded profile, the NeoForge install guide walks through the loader, and the general Minecraft mod installation guide covers the basics.
Once your loader is ready:
- Download the CMDCam file that matches your loader and game version.
- Download the matching CreativeCore file.
- Drop both JARs into your
modsfolder. - Launch the game through your Forge or NeoForge profile.
Because CMDCam is a client-and-server utility, server owners can install it to let players run saved scenes with /cam-server commands. If you run into control conflicts, remap the camera keys in your controls menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a recording program? Yes. CMDCam animates the camera but does not record the screen. Pair it with OBS, the Replay Mod, or any capture tool to save the final video.
What does CreativeCore do? It is the shared library CMDCam is built on. Several of CreativeMD's mods use it, and CMDCam will not load without it.
Can the camera follow a player or mob? Yes. Use /cam target and then right-click an entity or block, or set /cam target self to track yourself while the path runs.
Does it work on servers? Yes. Server scenes use the /cam-server family of commands so admins can create, save, and trigger paths for players.
Is CMDCam still maintained? The project stays current with new game releases, with the latest file posted in June 2026. Check the project page for the newest build before you install.
For a different take on cinematic shots, the Real Camera mod brings the viewpoint down to first-person body awareness.
