Glide is a Minecraft mod that hands you a Breath of the Wild-style paraglider for early and mid-game air travel. Strap the glider into your hand trinket slot, leap from a high point, and press space to open it mid-air. It turns cliff edges, mountain peaks, and tall builds into launch pads for exploration.

How the Glider Works

The glider behaves like the paraglider from The Legend of Zelda. Equip it in the hand trinket slot, jump off something tall, and tap space while falling to deploy the canopy. You keep your forward momentum and can steer toward ledges, tree tops, and structures that would be a hassle to climb.

Because the glider is cheap to craft, you can grab one long before you have elytra. It is a practical tool for reaching far-off villages, surveying terrain, and crossing gaps without burning resources.

Riding Heat Sources for Lift

The standout mechanic is updraft. When you glide over a heat source like a campfire, soul fire, or lava pool, the rising air pushes you upward. A single pass over a campfire can extend your glide, and a long lava run can launch you higher than where you started.

This turns heat into fuel. Place campfires on a tower and you have a reusable launch point. String a few lava patches along a route and you can glide for huge distances without ever touching the ground.

Glider Enchantments

Two enchantments expand what the glider can do. Cyclone gives you a forward speed boost, pushing you along while airborne. Gust creates an updraft on demand, launching you upward the way a heat source would but anywhere you want it.

Cyclone Enchantment

Gust Enchantment

A quick note on naming. In the first two releases the Gust and Cyclone effects were swapped by accident, so if you are running an early build and the effects feel reversed, that is why. Newer releases fixed the mix-up.

Installing Glide

Glide runs on Fabric and Quilt, so start by setting up Fabric or Quilt. You will also need the Fabric API library and the Trinkets mod, since the glider lives in a trinket slot. Drop every jar into your mods folder and launch the game. If you want a fuller walkthrough, see our guide to installing Minecraft mods.

FAQ

Do I need any other mods for Glide to work?

Yes. Glide depends on the Fabric API library and the Trinkets mod for the hand trinket slot. Install both before dropping the Glide jar into your mods folder.

Can I start a glide without jumping off a cliff?

You can. Glide over a campfire, fire, or lava and the updraft will push you skyward, which lets you deploy the glider from flat ground if a heat source is nearby.

Which enchantment should I pick first?

Cyclone is great for covering distance fast, while Gust is better for gaining altitude on demand. Pair the two and you can stay airborne for a long time.

Does the glider replace elytra?

Not exactly. The glider is an early and mid-game travel tool that is cheap to craft and easy to use. Elytra still wins for raw speed and distance, but Glide gets you into the air much earlier.
