Just Leveling brings a full RPG progression layer to Minecraft, inspired by the classic Reskillable mod. You grow a character across eight aptitudes, unlocking passive bonuses and toggleable skills as you pour XP into the paths that fit your playstyle. It also reintroduces item requirements, so progression gates meaningful choices instead of handing every tool to you on day one.

How the Aptitude System Works

The mod is built around eight aptitudes, Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Defense, Intelligence, Building, Magic, and Luck. Each one levels independently from 0 up to 10, and every rank unlocks something tangible rather than a marginal stat bump. Open the aptitude screen with the Y key to spend your points and switch the title shown on your nameplate.

As you climb the ranks you unlock passive effects that are always active, plus skills you can toggle on or off once you meet the level requirement. Higher ranks demand more XP, so maxing an aptitude becomes a genuine long-term goal rather than a quick checkbox.

What Each Aptitude Unlocks

Every aptitude pairs a steady passive with at least one standout skill. Here is what you are working toward in each tree.

Strength

The Attack Damage passive substantially boosts your melee damage output.

The One Handed skill doubles down on single-weapon builds, letting you specialize for devastating burst damage.

Constitution

Max Health passively grows your health pool so you can absorb more punishment.

Athletics extends your underwater breathing, which makes ocean monument runs and deep mining far less punishing.

Dexterity

Movement Speed makes exploring and strafing around enemies noticeably faster.

Quick Reposition grants a burst of Speed II right after you land a hit, perfect for hit-and-run combat.

Intelligence

Attack Speed shortens your weapon cooldown so you can chain strikes faster.

Scholar lets you read the enchantments on gear, so you can equip the right tools for each situation.

Defense

Armor passively improves how well your gear protects you.

Diamond Skin grants a permanent Resistance II effect, turning you into a genuine front-line tank.

Building

Block Reach extends how far you can place and break blocks.

Treasure Hunter gives you a chance to dig up buried loot while mining dirt.

Magic

Item Locks Make Leveling Matter

Aptitudes are only half the design. Just Leveling also locks certain items and actions behind aptitude thresholds, so you cannot simply craft or use everything from the start. You might be unable to touch an enchanting table until your Magic aptitude reaches a required rank. That forces real specialization, you pick the trees that match how you want to play, then grind the XP to unlock the gear those trees gate.

Installing Just Leveling

Because this is a Forge mod, start by installing Minecraft Forge for your game version. Drop the Just Leveling JAR into your mods folder, then launch the game and press Y to open the aptitude screen.
