No Chat Reports | Keep Your Chat Off the Record
No Chat Reports strips cryptographic signatures from every chat message and disables player chat reporting, on the client, the server, or both.
Load No Chat Reports for the first time and a small status icon shows up in the corner of your chat screen, ready to tell you how a server handles your messages. The warning bars vanilla pushes about unsigned chat can be hidden as well. Around 64 million players have downloaded the mod so far, and it still gets steady updates.
Strips Chat Signatures and Blocks Reports
Vanilla signs every public chat message with a cryptographic signature that ties the words straight to your Microsoft account. Chat reports are built on exactly that proof. No signature, no verifiable report. No Chat Reports strips those signatures from your messages before they leave your client, and it refuses to send your account's public key to the server at all.
The reporting feature itself gets disabled rather than merely starved of data. On the client the mod also turns the game's built-in telemetry off, so gameplay data collection ends in the very same install.
One honest limit, and the author is upfront about it: client side protection only holds where a server allows unsigned chat. The mod deliberately contains none of the exploits that would counteract reporting behind a server's back. The stated advice is short, don't play on servers that enforce signing and fully support chat reporting.
Client, Server, or Both Sides
Three install spots, three sets of behavior. On client only, your messages leave unsigned and your public key never gets sent, and the server still relays them as long as it hasn't enabled enforce-secure-profile in its server.properties. That option is on by default in current game versions, so a stock public server keeps signing alive out of the box.
Join a server that demands signed messages and the mod throws a warning screen at login. Depending on the game version, you either cannot join until you agree to signed chat, or you get in but chat-related commands are taken away.
Server only covers everyone at once. Clients still attach signatures when sending, but the server strips them before the text reaches any other player, so chat reporting fails for everyone who connects, unmodded clients included. If those players shouldn't be staring at Not Secure tags on every line, the config option that converts player messages into system messages fixes it. One catch: a bare server can't hide the unsigned messages notice from unmodded clients, only a client side mod can.
Both sides is the tightest setup. Signatures get stripped on the client before anything is sent, the server skips verification entirely, and chat reporting plus Only Show Secure Chat simply stop functioning. Players who try those features get a notice explaining that the mod disabled them. The config can also demand installation on the opposite side, so a server can require every connecting client to carry the mod.
Config Files, Signing Modes, and Chat Encryption
Everything lives in a NoChatReports subfolder inside your config folder, split across four JSON files.
- NCR-Client.json, client side settings
- NCR-Common.json, server side settings
- NCR-Encryption.json, chat encryption (client only)
- NCR-ServerPreferences.json, per-server signing modes
Per-server signing is a quiet favorite here. You can keep a different stance for each server you join instead of one blanket rule, so a trusted community gets one behavior and a random public server gets another. If a signed-chat prompt still trips somewhere, that fourth file is the first place to look.

Chat encryption is the deeper optional layer. The author recorded a dedicated video on how it's used and whether it should be, because enabling it changes how your messages get transmitted. If you'd rather read before touching it, the project's wiki carries a full article called To Encrypt or Not to Encrypt.

Back on the reading side, hover the status icon in the bottom right corner of the chat screen for a server's exact situation. It reads Secure when the server runs the mod or blocks reporting another way, Unintrusive when the server leaves enforce-secure-profile off so your unsigned messages pass through, and Insecure when signing is forced and everything you type can be reported. Prefer the old chat look? Client settings can hide the red, yellow, and gray warning bars along with their pop-up alerts.

How to Install No Chat Reports
The same jar works on either side of the connection, so setup takes minutes at most.
- Pick your loader, since No Chat Reports ships for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt.
- Brand new to mods? Our guide to installing Minecraft mods walks through the entire process.
- Download the jar that matches your loader and game version from the official project page. Fabric players can lean on our Fabric loader guide, and Forge players on our Forge loader guide.
- Drop the jar into your mods folder.
- Start the game or the server once so the config files generate, then open the NoChatReports subfolder and set the JSON files to your taste.
FAQ
Does the server need No Chat Reports installed too? No. It works on the client alone, on the server alone, or on both sides. Client only protection holds as long as the server keeps enforce-secure-profile turned off, so your unsigned messages go through. Server only protects every player who connects, even ones without the mod. Both sides together gives the strongest cover, and its config can require the mod on the opposite side.
Can a server force me to sign my messages anyway? Yes, through the enforce-secure-profile option in server.properties. The mod then shows a warning screen, and depending on the game version you either cannot join until you agree to signed chat, or you join but lose chat commands.
How do I change the mod's settings? Four JSON files sit in the NoChatReports subfolder of your config directory. NCR-Client.json covers client options, NCR-Common.json covers server options, NCR-Encryption.json covers chat encryption, and NCR-ServerPreferences.json stores per-server signing modes.
Is No Chat Reports still maintained? Yes. The latest release landed in September 2026, and the project remains actively maintained.
Strip the proof out and a report simply has nothing to point at, which is the whole trick in one line. If you'd rather send less text to begin with, our Simple Voice Chat walkthrough covers the proximity audio route.
