Landmines | Trap and Prank Mod
The Landmines Mod adds explosive, teleporting, and potion-flinging mines to Minecraft. Build clever traps and prank friends with twelve landmine types.

The Landmines Mod turns the ground beneath your feet into a weapon. Twelve distinct mine types let you build hidden traps, prank your friends, and reshape PvP arenas without touching command blocks. Each landmine sits quietly until a player or mob steps on it, then detonates the moment they step off. That split-second delay is what makes them so dangerous and so much fun.
How the Landmines Mod works
Every landmine follows the same logic. Place it on the ground, load it with the right item if it needs one, then shift right-click to arm it. Once armed the mine waits. A creature walks on top and nothing happens. The trap springs only when the target leaves the block, which means careless players often wander straight through a minefield before they ever realize it is there.
A few landmines are single use. Most of them are reusable, so you can reload and reset the same trap over and over.
Every landmine type and what it does
Explosive Landmine
The classic. It explodes the instant it triggers, dealing heavy damage to anything standing nearby. Think of it as a buried TNT that you control.
Potion Landmine
Load this one with a splash or lingering potion and it flings the potion on activation. Drop a Poison or Slowness brew inside to soften up intruders before a fight. Because it is reusable, you can swap potions in and out.
Fire Landmine
Feed it a fire charge and it sets players and mobs ablaze. Great for defending a base entrance or punishing anyone who gets too close.
Launch Landmine
Trigger it and anything on top rockets into the sky. Use it to bounce raiders away from your walls or to set up chaotic vertical PvP arenas.
Levitation Landmine
This one applies levitation, sending targets floating gently upward with no easy way down. Pair it with a fall and the landing does the real damage.
Lightning Landmine
It calls down a lightning bolt on activation. Useful against creepers, since a charged creeper explosion hits far harder than a normal one.
Teleportation Landmine
Arm it with chorus fruit and it teleports whatever steps on it to a random nearby spot. Less lethal than the others, perfect for confusing trespassers and leading them into a second trap.
Snow Landmine
Load a snow block and it blankets the area in snow when triggered. Mostly cosmetic, but handy for winter-themed builds and festive pranks.
Arrow Landmine
Stock it with arrows and it fires them outward like a hidden turret. Useful in corridors where there is nowhere to dodge.
Zombie Landmine
It summons zombies on activation. Drop one inside a base raid and watch defenders suddenly have bigger problems than you.
Fake Landmine
Disguised to look like an Explosive Landmine, but it does absolutely nothing. Pure psychological warfare. Scatter a few real mines among the fakes and watch players freeze in place.
Arming a landmine step by step
- Place the landmine on the ground where you want the trap.
- If the mine needs an item, hold that item and right-click the landmine to load it.
- Shift right-click the landmine to arm it.
An armed landmine stays active until it triggers or you break it. Reusable mines can be reloaded the same way once they have fired.
Installing the Landmines Mod
The mod runs on both major Java Edition loaders, so pick whichever your existing modpack uses. If you are new to modded Minecraft, our Minecraft Fabric and Minecraft Forge guides walk through installing a loader from scratch. Once your loader profile is ready, drop the Landmines jar into your mods folder and launch the game. For a broader walkthrough, see how to install Minecraft mods.
Landmines Mod FAQ
Do landmines hurt the player who placed them?
Yes. Once armed a landmine does not care who steps on it. Plan your trap layouts so you do not walk through your own minefield.
Can server admins use these for minigames?
They work well for that. Because the mines trigger on any entity, you can build PvP arenas, capture-the-flag courses, and obstacle runs without plugins. Make sure every player has the mod installed on a server running the same loader.
Are the landmines reusable?
Most of them are, including the Potion, Fire, Launch, Levitation, Lightning, Teleportation, Snow, and Arrow mines. The Explosive and Zombie mines are single use.
Is the mod still being updated?
The most recent release is from December 2025. The project has received regular updates across several Minecraft versions, so check the project page for the current status before installing on a newer game build.
