If your PC sits on the modest side of the spectrum, most shader packs feel like a luxury you cannot afford. MakeUp Ultra Fast is built for exactly that situation. Its author set out to create a shader with the best quality to performance ratio possible, one that adapts to whatever hardware you bring to it. Around 11 million downloads later, it remains a proven lightweight pick, and it was still receiving updates as of June 2026.

Every Effect Is Optional

The feature list reads like a pack that should cost far more frames than it does. You get optional shadows, optional volumetric clouds, antialiasing through TAA, depth of field, enhanced ambient occlusion, water reflection and refraction, motion blur, bloom, chromatic aberration, and auto-exposure. None of it is forced on you. Enable the effects that sell the look, leave the rest switched off, and the shader only consumes resources for what you actually use. That is the core design idea, and it is why the same pack stretches across such a wide range of machines.

Color Schemes and Full Dimension Coverage

Worlds can start to feel samey after a hundred hours, so MakeUp includes color schemes you can swap whenever you like. Pick one that suits your current build or biome, change it again tomorrow, no reinstall required. The pack also covers all native dimensions, so the Nether and the End are not left with flat default lighting while the Overworld gets all the flair. Coverage like that is easy to skip in a pack chasing performance, and having it here makes the whole thing feel finished rather than partial.

Which Effects Cost the Most FPS

The author singles out two effects, shadows and depth of field. Both are flagged as resource-intensive, and both are the first things to switch off if your frame rate dips. The official guidance is refreshingly honest about this. Remove them when you need more performance and the pack still looks great. Everything else on the list is there for you to experiment with as your hardware allows. MakeUp has been tested on Nvidia, AMD and Intel hardware across Windows and Linux, though no shader is guaranteed on every model ever made. If you want to claw back even more frames, our Sodium performance guide covers a client-side rendering mod that pairs well with lightweight shader packs like this one.

How to Install MakeUp Ultra Fast

  1. Install a shader loader first. MakeUp runs on both Iris and OptiFine. If you are starting from zero, our Iris install guide walks through the full setup, and the OptiFine guide covers the standalone route.
  2. Download the shader from the official project page and keep the file as a zip. Do not unpack it.
  3. Launch Minecraft Java Edition with your loader of choice, then open Options, Video Settings, and the shader packs menu.
  4. Use the folder button in that menu to open your shaderpacks directory, or drop the zip in there manually.
  5. Select MakeUp Ultra Fast from the list and confirm. Give it a moment to compile and load.
  6. Leave your loader's built-in shader options at their defaults. The author recommends customizing only through the shader's own settings, since touching the native options can reduce quality.

MakeUp Ultra Fast FAQ

Does MakeUp Ultra Fast work on multiplayer servers? Yes. Shaders are purely a client-side effect, and this pack has no server component at all. Your own machine renders the visuals, so you can use it on any server you join without anyone else installing anything.

Can I turn individual effects on and off? Every effect in the pack is optional. Open the shader's own settings menu and toggle shadows, clouds, depth of field, bloom and the rest one by one. The pack only spends resources on what you enable.

Is MakeUp Ultra Fast still maintained? Yes. The shader received an update in June 2026 and development is active. It has also been tested across a wide span of Minecraft releases. The source lives on GitHub, so you can fork or modify it yourself as long as you credit the original author.

Does it run on integrated graphics? It has been tested on Nvidia, AMD and Intel hardware across Windows and Linux, and the entire pack is designed around modest resources. The author notes it is not guaranteed on every existing model, so try it on your setup and dial effects back if needed.

If you eventually want a heavier, more cinematic look, Complementary Reimagined is a natural upgrade path, and Solas Shader offers fantasy visuals at a moderate cost. For now, tune MakeUp to your machine and enjoy shaders without the frame penalty.
