Red Power is a redstone overhaul from the Obscuria collection that rewires how signals travel across your builds. Instead of stacking dust on every block, you lay dedicated cables, nodes, and gates that carry current up to 64 blocks with far less signal decay than vanilla redstone. It is built for players who want tighter, more readable circuits and for map makers who want their redstone to look like real electrical wiring instead of dust trails.

What Red Power adds to redstone

The core change is a dedicated wire system. Wires transmit a signal up to 64 blocks and lose far less power over distance than vanilla redstone dust, so you can span larger builds without chaining repeaters. Wires are also paintable, and cables of different colors are isolated from each other, which means you can run several channels through the same block face without crosstalk. A few wire types are invisible, handy for keeping contraptions clean inside finished walls.

Open connections are exposed to the world, which is where the mod gets interesting. Water can short out a wire and lightning can damage it, so placement matters. Fuseboxes let you protect sensitive stretches, turning environmental risk into another design consideration rather than a nuisance.

Logic gates, timers, and nodes

Vanilla redstone forces you to build gates from torches and repeaters. Red Power hands you the gates directly. AND, OR, and XOR gates sit as single blocks, so compact logic fits where a torch ladder used to live. Timers cover the other half of circuit design, with delay timers and pulse generators for clocked mechanisms and one-shot triggers.

Building with the simple node system

Nodes are how you turn loose wires into a real network. Place a node on any side of a block and it becomes a junction that controls the wires attached to it, including their power capacity and whether they render. This makes it easy to split, merge, and route channels through walls and ceilings without rewriting the whole circuit. The node code is exposed as an API, so addon authors can define their own node behaviors.

Urban aesthetics for city builders

Red Power is meant to look like something, not just work. Wires and nodes are styled after real electrical components, which suits modern and urban map builds where plain redstone dust would break the look. Painted cables double as decoration, letting you run visible conduits along walls as part of the architecture rather than hiding them.

How to install Red Power

Red Power runs on Forge and needs the Obscure API library from the same collection, so both jars have to land in your mods folder together.

  1. Install Forge for your game version.
  2. Grab the Obscure API jar as well, since the mod will crash on startup without it.
  3. Drop both jars into your mods folder.
  4. Launch the game and confirm the mod appears in the mods list.

For the broader walkthrough, see the install Minecraft mods guide. An in-game settings screen lets you tune wire behavior and visuals after it loads.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need other mods to run Red Power?

Yes. It requires Obscure API, a shared library used across the Obscuria collection. Put both jars in your mods folder together, or the game will crash on launch.

Can different colored wires cross without interfering?

Yes. Painted wires of different colors are isolated from each other, so parallel channels can share a block face without crosstalk.

How far can a single wire carry a signal?

One wire transmits a redstone signal up to 64 blocks with reduced power loss, which lets you span large builds without stacking repeaters.

Can the environment damage my circuits?

It can. Water shorts out open connections and lightning can damage them, so the mod adds fuseboxes you can place to protect vulnerable stretches.

Is Red Power still being maintained?

The last release is from May 2023 and the project is marked as paused on its page. Check the project page for current status before you build around it.
