Scorchful | Heat and Desert Survival Mod
Scorchful is a Dune-inspired survival mod for Minecraft that adds heatstroke, sun exposure, sandstorms, and Nether heat mechanics to warm biomes.
Scorchful turns warm biomes and the Nether into genuinely dangerous places. Built as the heat-focused sister mod to Frostiful, it reworks temperature into a real survival pressure so deserts, savannas, badlands, and jungles finally feel as hostile as they should. The mod is Vanilla+ in spirit, meaning it layers on top of the base game instead of replacing it.
Surviving the Sun and Heatstroke
Step out of the shade in a warm biome and you start to warm up. The longer you stay exposed, the worse the heatstroke gets, creeping through weakness, hunger, and mining fatigue until you cool down. Shade, armor with heat resistance, and a Sun Hat all buy you time, but none of them solve the core problem on their own.

Staying Wet and Sweating
The main way to beat the heat is to stay wet. Jump in a river or pond, dump a bucket of water over yourself, or drink from a water source. Potions, water bottles, certain foods, the Water Skin, and Cactus Juice all count, and drinking lets you sweat for the same cooling benefit as being soaked.

Hydration is what keeps the cooling loop running. Manage your water and you can keep moving through terrain that would otherwise cook you.

Nether Heat and Nether Lilies
The Nether is hotter than anywhere in the Overworld, which means water struggles to stay liquid at all. Carrying your own supply to drink is one option. The other is to lean on the Nether Lilies that grow in the Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, and occasionally the Nether Wastes.

Crimson Lilies pull what little moisture they can from the surrounding Netherrack and use it as a weapon against fire-born mobs. Step on one for a fast soak. The calmer Warped Lilies are better harvested for stored water, which makes them ideal for long Nether trips where every drop matters.

Sandstorms and Renewable Sand
Weather in deserts and badlands now kicks up full sandstorms. A thick fog rolls in and cuts your visibility, but it also blocks the sun and gives you a break from the heat. The tradeoff is mechanical, not just visual.

During a storm, mobs slow down and Breezes spawn. Sand Piles build up across the ground and any exposed cauldrons fill with sand, which gives you a renewable source of sand. If you only want the atmospheric side of storms without the survival changes, the standalone client mod Immersive Storms ships just the visual and audio effects.

Heat in Combat
Fire is now a temperature threat, not just a damage one. Setting a mob or player alight warms them fast, so putting out flames becomes urgent. Splash potions double as a way to soak yourself mid-fight, which ties cooling directly into your combat kit rather than leaving it as a separate system.

How to Install Scorchful
Scorchful is a Fabric-first mod, so the cleanest setup runs on Fabric. Drop the downloaded JAR into your mods folder along with its required libraries, which include Fabric API, Thermoo, Mod Menu, and YACL. If you have never set up a modded instance before, the general mod installation guide walks through the full process from a clean profile.
A Quilt setup is also supported by swapping Fabric API for the Quilt Standard Libraries. A NeoForge port exists but is an experimental alpha that may crash and is not guaranteed to track new game versions, so treat Fabric or Quilt as the reliable path.
Configuration and Mod Integrations
Almost everything in Scorchful is configurable. You can tune how much heat fire applies, disable throwing fire charges, switch features off entirely, or use the datapack-driven temperature effects and tags to fit the mod into a custom pack. Armor heat resistance and water values on food and drinks are all data-driven.
The mod is built to sit alongside Frostiful, its cold-weather counterpart, and has native integration with Dehydration, swapping in that mod's thirst system when present. Extra compatibility patches for seasons, heart-bar mods, and other popular additions come through the standalone Thermoo Patches mod.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Scorchful add to Minecraft? It adds a heat and sun-exposure system that triggers heatstroke in warm biomes and the Nether, plus Nether Lilies, sandstorms with renewable sand, and heat-aware combat. Think of it as Frostiful for hot environments.
Is Scorchful the same as Frostiful? No. Frostiful handles cold, while Scorchful handles heat. They are sister mods from the same author and are designed to run together for full temperature survival.
Do I need Thermoo and Fabric API? Yes. Thermoo is the temperature framework Scorchful is built on, and Fabric API is required on Fabric. On Quilt, replace Fabric API with the Quilt Standard Libraries. Some older Scorchful builds used Cloth Config instead of YACL, so check the dependencies for the version you download.
Does it work with shader packs? Mostly. Shader packs tend to break the sandstorm fog in deserts and badlands, but the particles, sand piles, and cauldron filling still work normally with shaders on.
Where can I read more or get help? The mod has an official wiki covering mechanics and configuration, and the source repo accepts bug reports on its issue tracker.
