What the Paladins & Priests Mod Does

The Paladins & Priests Mod drops two RPG-style combat classes into Minecraft, borrowing the Paladin and Priest archetypes from classic fantasy roleplaying games. You pick a path, craft a spell book, load up runes as ammunition, and channel divine magic to heal allies or smite enemies. The whole package runs on the Spell Engine data-driven magic library, so spells live in clean data files that data packs can override. The result is a class system that feels at home on multiplayer survival and RPG servers alike.

Spells, Runes, and Spell Books

Every class needs a spell book. The sacred tome acts as your compendium of incantations, letting you learn and cast a wide range of divine spells. Craft a Spell Binding Table by surrounding a table with bookshelves, or find one inside a village gazebo, to start binding spells of your own.

Place a regular book on the sacred inscription table and pick the spell you want. The table binds that spell to the book for a small sacrifice of experience levels. Runes then act as the ammunition for every cast, much like arrows for a bow, so keep a stack handy before a fight.

Choosing Your Divine Path

Two classes shape how you fight and support your party.

Paladin: Holy Champion

The Paladin leans into melee combat. Grab a claymore, great hammer, or mace, strap on a shield, and wade into the front line. Paladin spells focus on protection and battlefield damage, so the class plays best with heavy weapons and a defensive off-hand. Two paladin armor sets round out the kit with configurable spell bonuses.

Priest: Divine Healer

The Priest is the support backbone. Holy staves and wands channel healing and protective magic that keeps your friends alive and burns undead at range. The Holy Book holds the priest spell list, and two priest armor sets boost those spells further. A priest shines in group play but can still hold their own solo.

Casting Your First Spells

Once you have chosen a path and bound a Spell Book, you are ready to play your class. Open your inventory and drop the Spell Book into the new slot the mod adds, then make sure runes sit somewhere in your inventory as ammunition.

That is all you need. Take up your sacred weapon and you are a holy champion, ready to vanquish the forces of darkness with divine might.

Sanctuaries and Monk Villagers

Villages gain a new structure called the Sanctuary. Inside these hallowed halls, Monk villagers spawn and sell a variety of paladin and priest gear, which gives you a reliable way to kit out a fresh character. Class equipment also injects into dungeon chests, so exploring pays off even before you stumble on a Sanctuary.

If you add the Gazebos mod from the same series, village gazebos start appearing with small spell libraries inside.

For first-person attack animations, pair the mod with Better Combat. It also plays well with the rest of the RPG Series, including the Wizards Mod and the Archers Mod.

How to Install the Mod

The mod runs on Fabric and NeoForge, so start by installing your Fabric loader and the libraries it needs. Paladins & Priests depends on the Runes, Spell Engine, and AzureLib Armor libraries, so drop those jars into your mods folder first. Add the paladins jar after them, load your world, and the new spell book slot should appear in your inventory. For a fuller walkthrough, follow our guide to installing Minecraft mods. Both the client and the server need the mod for multiplayer.

Paladins & Priests FAQ

Do I need other mods for it to work? Yes. Runes, Spell Engine, and AzureLib Armor are required dependencies, and Better Combat is recommended for first-person animations.

Can I play it on a server with friends? Yes. Install it on both the client and the server, and the class system works in shared survival and RPG worlds.

Can I customize the spells and loot? Spells are defined in data files, and item attributes, loot tables, and village generation sit in JSON config under config/paladins/. Data packs can override spells too.

Is Paladins & Priests still being maintained? The latest release landed in March 2026, so the project stays current. Check the project page for the newest build.

Should I pair it with other RPG Series mods? It does. The Wizards Mod and Archers Mod share the same Spell Engine base, and Better Combat adds the melee animations that make heavy weapons feel good.
