What Is Smooth Swapping?
Smooth Swapping is a client-side cosmetic mod created by Schauweg. It doesn't add blocks, items, or gameplay systems. Instead it changes how item movement looks in any inventory GUI. When you move, shift-click, or hotbar-swap an item, it travels from its old slot to the new one with a smooth animation instead of vanishing and reappearing. The effect is small, but once you've used it for an hour, plain vanilla inventory management feels oddly static.
The mod is built with Architectury but does not require the Architectury API, so you can drop it in without an extra dependency. It's licensed under LGPL-3.0.

Animated Item Movement
The core feature. Any item that moves between inventory slots (through clicking, shift-clicking, or hotbar keybinds) slides to its destination along a path you define. It works in player inventories, chests, shulker boxes, crafting grids, and most modded containers.
Custom Animation Curve
A settings menu lets you shape the animation itself. On Fabric, open it through ModMenu. On Forge and NeoForge, it's available through the mods list. You can:
- Toggle the mod on or off
- Adjust animation speed with a slider
- Edit the animation curve graph: right-click empty space to add a point, left-click and drag to move points (the first and last points stay locked), right-click a point to delete it
Built-in Test Inventory
The settings screen includes a small test inventory so you can preview your curve changes before heading back into the game. It's a nice touch that saves you from guessing whether your new easing actually feels good.
How to Install Smooth Swapping
Because it's client-side only, you only need it on your own client. Servers don't have to install a thing.

Compatibility and Known Issues
Smooth Swapping is purely visual, so it rarely fights other mods. A few things to keep in mind:
- It's client-side only, so installing it on a server does nothing, and you don't need matching versions to join multiplayer.
- Fabric users need ModMenu to reach the config screen. Without it the mod still runs, but you can't edit the curve in-game.
- The animation can look choppy below roughly 30 FPS, so it's best on setups that hold a steady frame rate.
- If another mod overrides inventory rendering, test the combination before relying on it.

Does Smooth Swapping work on servers?
No, and it doesn't need to. It runs entirely on your client, so you can use it on any vanilla or modded server without the server having it installed.
Do I need Fabric API for the Fabric version?
Yes. The Fabric build depends on Fabric API, and you'll want ModMenu installed as well so you can open the settings screen.
Is Smooth Swapping a performance mod?
No, it's a cosmetic mod. It can actually look choppy at low frame rates, so it pairs better with a reasonably smooth-running setup than with a heavily modded pack that struggles to hit 30 FPS.
