Epic Samurai's | 3D Samurai Armor Mod
Epic Samurai's Mod adds 3D samurai armor sets, katanas, and Japanese folklore mobs to Minecraft. Craft gear, fight yokai, and explore new structures.
What Is Epic Samurai's Mod?
Epic Samurai's Mod is a Japanese folklore themed add on for Minecraft that outfits your character with 3D samurai armor and weapons, then pits you against mythical yokai from the same tradition. It is built for Forge and NeoForge on Java Edition, and the last release landed in December 2025, so expect new content and the occasional rough edge as the project matures.
The core appeal is the look. Armor renders as proper 3D models rather than flat texture swaps, and the weapon set leans into katana and ninja styling that vanilla Minecraft never touches. Pair it with Better Combat and TugkanDeMan's Weaponry and the melee feel gets noticeably tighter.

What the Mod Adds
3D Samurai Armor
You can craft several samurai and ninja armor sets, including Diamond, Netherite, and Jade tiers. Each set carries its own stats, and the higher tiers can be upgraded to unlock unique abilities. The 3D models are the headline feature, so the armor actually looks like proper plated gear on your character instead of a reskinned vanilla set.
Japanese Weapons
The weapon lineup covers the Katana, Kama, Sai, and Shuriken, all crafted from a new steel material you produce by blasting. Defeating yokai drops materials you can use to upgrade weapons with yokai abilities, and some weapons are only found by exploring the structures the mod adds out in the world.
Yokai Mobs
Epic Samurai's Mod populates your world with creatures pulled from Japanese mythology. Oni, Akaname, and Enenra are the headliners, alongside others like Tengu, Kitsune, and Komainu. Some are hostile demons, while Komainu and a few others can be tamed, bred, or befriended. A few of these mobs are still flagged as work in progress, but they already look the part.

How to Install Epic Samurai's Mod
Grab the jar that matches your loader and Minecraft version, then drop it into your mods folder alongside its required libraries. The mod needs GeckoLib (or Azurelib on newer versions) and Curios to run, so install those first. Our Minecraft Forge and NeoForge setup guides walk through the loader install if you have not done that before, and the general how to install Minecraft mods overview covers the mods folder step.
A couple of setup notes worth knowing:
- The mod is not compatible with Optifine. Use Rubidium or Embeddium with Oculus if you want shaders and performance tweaks.
- A Fabric port exists but is incomplete and currently lacks the mobs, so stick with Forge or NeoForge for the full experience.
- JEI or REI is recommended so you can actually see the crafting recipes, and GeckoLib must be present or the game will not launch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Epic Samurai's Mod compatible with Fabric? Only partially. A Fabric build exists but the mobs are not implemented in it yet, so Forge and NeoForge remain the reliable choices.
Does it work with Optifine? No. The mod explicitly calls out Optifine as incompatible. Use Rubidium or Embeddium for performance, with Oculus for shaders.
What dependencies do I need? GeckoLib on older versions and Azurelib from version 0.0.32 onward, plus Curios for every version. JEI and Better Combat are recommended but optional.
Is the mod finished? Not yet. The last release shipped in December 2025, so some mobs and features remain work in progress and you may hit the occasional bug.
