The Laser Mod by KOWI2003 drops working, fully upgradable lasers into Minecraft survival. Each beam is more than a light show. You tune it with upgrades to mine blocks, set mobs on fire, push or pull entities, or go fully invisible. Pair a laser with a catcher and you get a redstone signal that travels through open air, which opens up clean wireless switches and hidden traps. Throw in mirrors, remote controllers, computer integration, and a set of customizable laser tools, and the mod covers a surprising amount of ground for a single focused concept. If you enjoy compact tech builds, it pairs nicely with laser bridges and doors and other glowing tool addons.

What the Laser Mod Adds

The mod is dedicated to lasers and builds a whole survival friendly toolkit around them. You start with a laser block and a set of upgrades, then shape the beam to fit the job. The bundled in game manual walks you through every block and recipe, so it is worth crafting early instead of guessing. A path tracing system the author calls RayTracing handles the beam logic in software, with no special graphics hardware required, and it plays nicely with most models including assets from other mods.

Upgradable Lasers

Lasers are fully customizable using the upgrades the mod ships, and it is not just cosmetic. You can make a beam deal more damage, set entities on fire, mine blocks in its path, or pull and push entities around. Go a step further and make the laser invisible and silent. The only way to spot a hidden beam is to wear the IR Glasses the mod also adds, which makes them perfect for base defense and trapped corridors.

Redstone, Mirrors, and Remote Control

Wireless Redstone Signals

Point a laser at a laser catcher and you get a redstone signal that crosses open air. That single trick replaces long dust lines and lets you trigger doors, alarms, or pistons from a distance without wiring. It is a clean way to build hidden switches and compact contraptions.

Cosmetic Laser Types

The mod ships different looks for your beams, purely cosmetic, so you can color code a farm or a defense grid without changing how anything works.

Mirrors

Mirrors reflect a laser in any direction, so one beam can follow a path that would be impossible with a straight shot. Stack a few mirrors and a single laser can snake through a base to power several catchers.

Remote and Computer Control

A controller and a linker let you fire and tune lasers from a distance. Step up further and a computer from CC: Tweaked can drive them automatically, which turns the mod into a programmable defense or mining system. The laser projector accepts the same computer control, so you can run text or hologram style displays from Lua scripts.

Laser Tools, Armor, and the Projector

The mod adds a full set of laser tools and armor that share the same upgrade system as the beams. Tools can take on different colors as a cosmetic touch, deal more damage, or simply work more efficiently. Both tools and armor accept charge, so you are not burning through disposable resources. The laser projector rounds out the kit with a upgradable display block that can show player names, health, or hunger values for client side HUDs.

There is more under the hood than the headlines suggest. Machines can be upgraded, tools and armor take a charge, JEI integration keeps recipes visible, and the whole pack is friendly with CC: Tweaked. It is the kind of mod that surprises you with how much one concept can carry.

Extra Features
  • a unique crafting system where machines can be upgraded
  • tools and armor that accept a charge
  • many unique upgrades
  • an upgradable laser projector
  • JEI compatibility

Installing the Laser Mod

This is a Forge and NeoForge mod, so pick the matching loader for your game version before you start. If you have never set up a loader, the how to install Minecraft mods guide covers the basics, and the Forge walkthrough steps through the loader itself.

  1. Install Forge or NeoForge for your Minecraft version.
  2. Download the Laser Mod JAR that matches that loader and version.
  3. Drop the JAR into your mods folder.
  4. Launch the game and craft the in game manual to learn the recipes.

If anything misbehaves, the author asks that bugs be reported on the source repo linked from the project page rather than in the comments.

Laser Mod FAQ

Is the Laser Mod survival friendly?

Yes. It is built as a survival friendly mod, with craftable blocks, an in game manual, and balanced upgrades rather than creative only tools.

Can lasers really go invisible?

They can. An upgrade makes a beam invisible and silent, and the only counter is the IR Glasses the mod adds. It is a strong option for hidden base defense.

Does it work with other mods?

It integrates with CC: Tweaked for computer controlled lasers and projectors, and with JEI for recipe viewing. The path tracing also handles models from most other mods.

Do I need special hardware for the raytracing?

No. The RayTracing name refers to the software path tracing that calculates beam paths. It runs without a raytracing capable GPU.

Is the Laser Mod still being updated?

The last release is from June 2024. Check the project page for the current status before building anything long term around it.
