Naturalist is a wildlife mob mod that drops 24 animals into your world and lets them behave the way you would expect from real creatures. Bears patrol the forest, deer bolt at the first sign of danger, and butterflies drift between flowers to pollinate your crops. The goal is a working food chain and a believable ecosystem rather than a static zoo of decorative mobs.

Drylands and Savanna Mobs

The dry biomes, including savannas and deserts, gained eight new animals ranging from towering giants to fierce nocturnal hunters.

Lions rule the savanna as predators that go after mobs at night. Approach with respect, because they will not hesitate to fight back when cornered.

Giraffes are gentle giants that you can tame by feeding them a Golden Apple. Once tamed, they let you ride along for about 30 seconds, during which the radius of your maps expands significantly. Breed them with a Hay Bale to grow your herd.

Elephants amble through the landscape minding their own business. They are peaceful until provoked, at which point their size makes them a serious threat.

Hippos look harmless but are territorial around water. They will attack boats and any player that wanders into their pool. To breed them, drop a Glistering Melon or a Melon Block while they are in the water.

How to Install Naturalist

Getting Naturalist running takes only a couple of minutes once your modded loader is ready.

1. Install Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge and launch the matching version of the game once.
2. Download the Naturalist JAR that matches your loader and Minecraft version.
