EssentialGUI | On-Screen Info Overlay Mod
EssentialGUI is a quality of life mod that layers useful info onto Minecraft, from pointed block and entity data to night vision, zoom, and HUD alerts.
EssentialGUI is a quality of life overlay mod that surfaces the information Minecraft normally hides from you. Point at a block or mob and you instantly see its properties. Glance at the HUD for your armor, your hunger, or the biome you are standing in. It folds dozens of small convenience tools, like a night vision toggle and a zoom key, into one lightweight client mod.
What EssentialGUI Adds to Your HUD
At its core this mod is about making the game more readable. Press F12 in-game and the EssentialGUI Main Menu opens, giving you a single place to toggle every feature and tweak how each one behaves.

The overlay stack covers the things players check most often without cluttering the screen.
On-Screen Warnings and Status Alerts
You can configure on-screen warnings for low health, low hunger, and low oxygen. There is also a time-since-last-rest alert that flags when you are overdue for sleep, which is the trigger window for Phantoms to start spawning.

Pointed Block and Entity Information
When you point your crosshair at a block, EssentialGUI displays its type, coordinates, and advanced properties. Aim at an entity and you get its type, health, and name. You can also peek at the equipment other players and mobs are carrying, which is handy in PvP or when sizing up a threat.

Player Equipment and Advanced Stats
The mod shows your own armor and held weapons directly on the HUD, plus advanced player stats covering XP, health, attack damage, and enchantment protection factor. There is even a multiplayer equipment HUD so you can read what other players have equipped and enchanted.

Extended Item Tooltips
Tooltips expand to show food stats, advanced durability, item penalty level, and more. It works inside containers too, so you can inspect shulker box and bundle contents without placing them down.

Visibility, Weather, and Overlay Controls
A few toggles clean up the parts of the screen that get in the way. You can disable the pumpkin blur and vignette overlay textures, and turn off rain and snow particles when the weather is distracting.

Customizable Status Effects HUD
The status effects display is fully movable, and you control whether durations show and where the panel sits on your screen.

Furnace, Smoker, and Blast Furnace Insights
EssentialGUI adds an advanced panel for furnaces, smokers, and blast furnaces that shows cooking progress, fuel remaining, and machine status at a glance, so you spend less time guessing when a batch is done.

Zoom, Gamma, and the Night Vision Toggle
Beyond the overlays, the mod bundles several convenience keys. Press Z to zoom, use the plus and minus keys to raise or lower gamma, press F9 to toggle smooth lighting, and press F8 for a night vision hack (use that one with caution).

How to Install EssentialGUI
Installing the mod follows the standard client-mod flow. Because EssentialGUI is a Fabric mod, you need a Fabric installation first. If you have not set one up, our Fabric overview walks through the loader, and the general how to install Minecraft mods guide covers the rest of the steps.
- Install Fabric for the Minecraft version you want to play.
- Drop the EssentialGUI jar into your
modsfolder. - Launch the game with your Fabric profile and press F12 to open the menu.
EssentialGUI ships as a standalone client mod with no required dependencies, so you will not need an extra library like Fabric API just to get it running. Grab the jar matching your loader from the project page, since a Fabric build will not load on Forge or NeoForge.
EssentialGUI Frequently Asked Questions
Is EssentialGUI allowed on multiplayer servers?
Most of what it does is purely visual and client-side, so it is generally treated like other HUD and zoom mods. That said, the night vision hack and any feature that reveals information other players normally cannot see may trip anti-cheat rules. Always check a server's specific rules before joining with these toggles enabled.
Does EssentialGUI need Fabric API or other libraries?
No. The mod runs on its own with no required dependencies beyond a working Fabric installation. Optional loaders are not interchangeable here, since the builds target Fabric specifically.
How do I open the EssentialGUI menu?
Press F12 while in-game. That opens the main menu, where you can toggle every feature, reposition the HUD panels, and bind or rebind the zoom, gamma, and night vision keys.
Can I move the HUD panels around?
Yes. The status effects panel and most other overlays are repositionable from the F12 menu, so you can arrange the information around your hotbar and crosshair without overlap.
Is EssentialGUI still being maintained?
Yes. The latest release shipped within the last month as of June 2026, so the project is actively updated alongside new Minecraft releases.
