Neighborly brings a little Animal Crossing warmth to your Minecraft world. You meet a cast of friendly animal neighbors, chat with them every day, raise a reputation with each one, and eventually gather materials to build them a custom dream house. It is a peaceful, character-driven mod built around dialog and small town life rather than combat.

How the Neighborly animal cast works

Twelve unique animal neighbors roam the overworld, and each one spawns in a biome that fits its personality. A cheerful unicorn might wander a savanna, while a sleepy sloth prefers the gloom of a dark forest. The roster spans cats, ducks, penguins, imps, and more, and every character has its own dialogue pool.

Daily dialog and the reputation system

Right-click a neighbor to start a conversation. The dialog shifts from day to day, so checking in pays off, and you pick up a little XP each time you talk. As your friendship climbs, a per-neighbor reputation score ticks upward. Push that score high enough and the neighbor starts handing over gifts as a thank you.

Building each neighbor a dream home

The heart of Neighborly is construction. Once you reach a certain reputation with a neighbor, crouch and right-click them to reveal the blueprint materials they want for their dream house. Each of the twelve neighbors has its own unique blueprint, so no two homes are alike.

Gather the requested items and feed them into the blueprint to craft that neighbor's personal spawn block. Place the blueprint where you want the home to go, watch which side the door faces to set the orientation, then right-click to raise the house in seconds.

Moving neighbors around and reviving them

A wrench lets you lead a neighbor from place to place, and you can carry a finished blueprint block in your inventory to relocate a home. Neighbors also remember where they live and head back at night. If one dies by accident, it drops a spawn egg so you can bring it back without losing any progress or memories.

Meet a few of the neighbors

Each character has a personality, a biome, and a recipe. Here is a taste of who you will run into.

Chloe is an introverted cat who shows up in cherry groves and plains. Her home calls for cherry planks, light blue wool, and quartz blocks, and she whiles away her time tinkering with redstone.

Jammer is a music-loving cat from jungles and bamboo forests. Build them a place out of bamboo, acacia planks, and a jukebox, and they will happily tell you how great their own songs are.

Shroomer is a laid-back mushroom who hangs around mushroom fields and taigas. Their blueprint uses birch logs, red nether bricks, and amethyst shards, and they have a soft spot for crystals.

Duckley is a sweet elderly duck found along beaches and rivers. He asks for stone bricks, stripped oak logs, and pumpkin seeds, and he loves to garden and share advice.

Sapphire is a thoughtful penguin philosopher from the icy biomes. Their home needs packed snow bricks, snow blocks, and quartz pillars, and they spend their days asking big questions about the world.

Roxy is a mischievous Nether imp from crimson and warped forests. Build them a house of nether bricks, red nether bricks, and nether wart blocks, and expect plenty of sarcasm and pranks.

The mod also adds packed snow bricks for colder builds. Craft them from snow blocks and use them to decorate snowy structures or to complete a winter neighbor's blueprint.

Installing Neighborly

Neighborly runs on the Forge and NeoForge mod loaders. Pick the loader you already use, or install NeoForge or Forge if you are starting fresh. Drop the mod jar into your mods folder and launch the game. Because Neighborly is built for peaceful and casual play, it pairs nicely with other cozy or building focused mods, and you can brush up on the general process in our Minecraft mods install guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I raise reputation with a neighbor? Talk to them. Right-click to start a conversation once a day, and your reputation ticks up each time. The dialog refreshes daily, and you earn a little XP along the way.

What happens when reputation is maxed out? A neighbor with high enough friendship will start giving you gifts as thanks, and they will reveal the blueprint materials for their dream house so you can build them a home.

Can I throw parties for my neighbors? Yes. Neighborly supports themed parties, and each party theme comes with its own custom dialog for the neighbors who attend.

How do I move a neighbor or their house? Equip a wrench to lead a neighbor on foot, or pick up a finished blueprint block and place it somewhere new. The neighbor remembers its home and walks back at night.

What if a neighbor dies? They drop a spawn egg. Use it to bring them back without losing reputation or memories.
