Enhanced AI | Smarter Hostile Mobs Mod
Enhanced AI Mod for Minecraft overhauls hostile mob behaviour so creepers breach, zombies mine, and skeletons snipe from afar. Fully configurable difficulty.
What the Enhanced AI Mod Changes
The Enhanced AI Mod rewrites how hostile mobs think and fight in Minecraft. Instead of the predictable vanilla patterns you have memorised, every monster gets sharper senses, better targeting, and a bag of new tricks that punish lazy strategies. The goal is to make combat feel dangerous again, whether you play solo or run a server.
The default configuration is a gentle spice up of vanilla difficulty. From there you can tune things down for a casual world or crank every value into a genuine nightmare. Almost every behaviour exposes a config slider, so you decide how punishing the experience gets. It works on both client and server, and as of the v3 line it targets vanilla mobs specifically (modded mobs can be opted in through Entity Type Tags).
Smarter Targeting and Anti Cheese
Every monster now acquires you as a target the moment it can, rather than rolling a chance each tick. Mobs see you from much farther away and can sense you through walls, which means walls and pillars no longer save you the way they used to. The blindness effect finally matters too, and hostile mobs stop fighting each other so they focus on you.
The cheese tactics veterans lean on are patched out. Monsters break boats and minecarts they get trapped in, flee from a creeper about to detonate or a lit TNT, and even climb ladders and vines to reach you. If you used to wall off a spawner and pick mobs off safely, that plan is gone.
Standout Mob Upgrades
Each hostile gets its own rework. These are the headline changes that reshape how you approach common fights.
- Creepers can spawn able to ignore walls, breach through them, walk while exploding, or launch themselves at you. A rare Creeper Cena variant packs a much larger blast.
- Skeletons fire accurately from up to 32 blocks, can flee when you close in, and keep shooting while running. Some spawn as Spammers that rapid fire without fully drawing the bow.
- Zombies have a chance to spawn as a Mining Zombie that breaks blocks to reach you, complete with a pickaxe. They can also spawn with ender pearls to close gaps or fishing rods to reel you in.
- Spiders may spawn as Web Throwers that slow you with thrown webs (or drop a cobweb on a miss), and cave spiders poison on hit. Spiders take 90 percent less fall damage.
- Witches throw smarter, faster, and from farther away, sometimes back to back or as lingering potions. A rare Dark Arts witch summons and electrocutes a villager to spawn a new witch while taking 80 percent less damage.

Beyond the headliners, blazes shoot with randomised fireball patterns, ghasts can fire up to three shots and sometimes hit you through walls, pillagers gain fleeing and strafing behaviour, and shulkers gain heavier armour in every stance. Animals fight back or flee as a group, and wolves, iron golems, and snow golems all get tougher. The full feature list runs much longer than this, and the mod keeps evolving with each release.
Configuring the Difficulty
The strength of the Enhanced AI Mod is how much you control. Open the generated config file and you can disable any behaviour you dislike, tweak the spawn chance of a Mining Zombie, lower creeper breach odds, or tune follow range and swim speed. Pack makers get an optional MPR Integration data pack that scales mob stats by how deep underground they spawn, so cave mobs hit harder than surface ones.
Because the defaults lean toward "vanilla but meaner", most players can install it and play without touching anything. If a particular mechanic frustrates you, it is almost always a one line config change to soften or remove it.
Installing the Enhanced AI Mod
This is a Forge and NeoForge mod, so start by setting up the matching loader for your Minecraft version. Our Forge setup guide and NeoForge project guide walk through creating the profile, and the general how to install Minecraft mods guide covers the rest.

With the loader profile ready, drop the downloaded jar into your mods folder and launch the game. The mod needs its library dependency InsaneLib on the same side (client or server) it runs on, so grab that too if your installer does not pull it automatically. On a dedicated server, make sure every client connecting also has the mod installed when you enable client sided features.
Pairing It With Other Mods
The Enhanced AI Mod stacks cleanly with content that adds new hostile mobs or tougher combat. It plays well alongside a combat overhaul like Better Combat, and you can pair it with a mob variety mod such as Creeper Overhaul or Ryan's Zombies for a world that feels genuinely unpredictable. Just keep in mind the mob AI changes target vanilla mobs by default, so any modded mob you want enhanced needs to be added through the relevant Entity Type Tags.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Enhanced AI Mod make the game too hard?
Only if you let it. The defaults are a measured step above vanilla, and every behaviour can be weakened or turned off in the config. Start with the defaults, then tune the mechanics that feel unfair to your playstyle.
Does it work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. The mod runs on both client and server, so you can drop it into a dedicated server. Make sure connected clients also install it when you use any client sided features.
Does it support modded mobs?
By default it enhances vanilla mobs only. You can add modded mobs to the relevant Entity Type Tags to give them the same behaviours, though results vary because not every mob cooperates with the changes.
Where can I see every feature and config option?
The mod own wiki covers the full feature list and every value you can tweak for pack making. The project is actively updated, with the latest release in June 2026, so check the project page for current status and newer additions.
