Mob Lassos | Catch & Carry Mobs Mod
Mob Lassos is a Minecraft mod that lets you catch and carry mobs in your inventory, so you can move animals, water creatures, and villagers without leads.
What Mob Lassos Actually Does
Mob Lassos is a Minecraft mob transportation mod built by Fuzs. The idea is simple. You craft a lasso, right-click a mob, and it gets tucked away in your inventory as an item. No leads, no animal food, no fences. When you reach the spot you want, you release the mob back into the world.
It works for moving livestock to a new pen, dragging animals across a long base build, or relocating villagers into a trading hall. The catch is that most lassos run on a timer, so the mob can escape if you take too long.
The Five Lasso Types and What Each One Catches
Each lasso is crafted separately and targets a different group of mobs. Picking the right one matters, because a golden lasso will not hold a squid.
Golden lasso
The golden lasso can capture all land animals. Cows, sheep, pigs, horses, and the rest of the standard ground-based mobs all go in. It has the shortest hold timer of the bunch, so plan a short trip.

Aquatic lasso
The aquatic lasso can capture all water animals. If you want to move fish, dolphins, or other ocean mobs to a custom aquarium, this is the tool.

Diamond lasso
The diamond lasso can capture all animals, including water animals. The big upside is that it has no timer. A mob stored in a diamond lasso will not escape, no matter how far you walk.

Emerald lasso
The emerald lasso only captures villagers, and not every villager will agree to be captured. A villager has to accept a contract first. Leveling the villager up before you try makes them more likely to agree, which turns relocating a full trading hall into a real project.

Hostile lasso
The hostile lasso can capture hostile mobs, but there is a catch. The target has to be below half health first, and it will keep biting you the entire time you carry it. Useful for moving a named creeper or a spawner mob, risky if you are low on hearts.

How Capturing and the Hold Timer Work
Once you have a lasso, aim at a mob and right-click. If the mob is within range and matches the lasso type, it gets pulled in. You can also rename a captured mob by putting the lasso in an anvil and giving it a new name, so the name sticks when you release it.

Each timed lasso holds a mob for a set window. The golden lasso lasts the shortest, the diamond lasso skips the timer entirely, and the rest fall in between. If the timer runs out while the mob is still in your inventory, it escapes.
Stretching the Timer With the Holding Enchantment
If the default hold time is too tight, enchant the lasso with the holding enchantment. It lengthens the capture window, which is the cleanest way to move mobs on long trips without springing for a diamond lasso every time.

Installing Mob Lassos
Mob Lassos installs like any standard Minecraft mod. You need it on both the client and the server, so single-player and multiplayer setups both work cleanly.
- Install your loader of choice first. The mod runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, so pick whichever your pack already uses. If you are starting fresh, our how to install Minecraft mods walkthrough covers the basics.
- Drop the Mob Lassos JAR into your
modsfolder. - Add the required library mods. On Fabric, that means Fabric API and Forge Config API Port. On NeoForge and Fabric you also need Puzzles Lib. Grab the versions that match your loader and Minecraft build.
- Launch the game. The lassos show up in your crafting menu the next time you play.
If you want to tweak hold times or which mobs each lasso accepts, the config files live in .minecraft/config and you can edit them with any text editor. On Fabric, pairing the mod with Mod Menu lets you change those settings from inside the game.
Mob Lassos FAQ
Do mobs stay in the lasso forever?
Only the diamond lasso has no timer. Every other lasso holds the mob for a limited window, and the mob escapes if the timer runs out. The holding enchantment buys you more time.
Can I move villagers with this mod?
Yes, with the emerald lasso. A villager has to accept a contract before it can be captured, and not all of them will. Leveling a villager first raises the odds.
Will it work for hostile mobs?
The hostile lasso handles them, but the mob must be under half health and it bites you the whole way. Bring food and armor.
Is Mob Lassos still receiving updates?
The most recent release shipped in late 2025 for current Minecraft versions. Check the project page for the latest build and current status before you build a pack around it.
Related Mods Worth Pairing It With
Mob Lassos pairs well with other transport and quality-of-life mods. If you liked this one, Villager Transportation covers a similar niche focused on villagers, and it sits cleanly alongside Mob Lassos in a base-building pack.
