What Epic Empires Adds to Minecraft

Epic Empires Mod drops historically inspired gear into your survival world, covering three of the ancient world's most recognizable fighting cultures in one pack. You get 3D Spartan, Roman, and Egyptian armor sets alongside matching shields and weapons, all modeled with custom helmets, shoulder guards, and chest plates that look nothing like vanilla kit. Whether you want to march like a legionary, stand in a phalanx, or rule the desert, this ancient armor mod gives you the visuals to sell the fantasy.

Tracking Down Ancient Iron and Gold Ingots

Every new piece of gear starts with the same hunt. The mod adds special iron and gold ingots that do not spawn from normal ore. Instead you find them tucked inside generated structures around your world, or buried inside suspicious sand that you brush out carefully. The ingots are the gate, so the first few hours of play become a treasure hunt across temples, ruins, and dig sites.

Once you have a stockpile of ancient ingots, the crafting tree opens up. Axes, swords, daggers, spears, shields, helmets, chest plates, leggings, and boots are all on the recipe list, and the patterns are easy to follow if you keep a recipe viewer on hand. Keep JEI or REI installed so you never have to guess what each shape needs.

Three Ancient Armor Sets

There are three cultures to collect, and each one ships in two tiers, a normal set and an elite set, so you can step up your look as your ingot supply grows. The 3D modeled helmets, chest plates, and shoulder guards carry the real silhouette of each culture, which is what makes the mod stand out from flat texture swaps.

Ancient Shields and Weapons

Armor is only half the kit. Epic Empires also adds Spartan and Roman shields you can raise in your off hand, plus a full lineup of melee weapons modeled after real ancient arms. Expect axes, daggers, spears, and gladius swords across all three cultures, so each loadout feels distinct rather than a stat copy with a different skin.

How to Install Epic Empires

This is a NeoForge mod, so start by setting up a NeoForge profile for your game version. If you have not done that before, the NeoForge setup guide walks through the launcher steps. Then install AzureLib Armor, which is the one required library, and drop both JAR files into your mods folder. Pull the ingot recipes into view with JEI or REI so you are not guessing at crafting layouts.

If you want the full combat experience the mod was designed around, add Better Combat and Combat Roll on top. Those two pair naturally with the new weapons and give the animations weight. Avoid Optifine here, the mod is not compatible with it and you will get visual glitches if both are loaded. Players who like the 3D armor aesthetic can also browse Epic Samurai's for the same idea with a Japanese flavor.

Epic Empires is built to play well with combat overhauls. Better Combat has direct compatibility support, and Combat Roll rounds out the dodge-and-strike flow that fits ancient warfare. JEI and REI are strongly recommended rather than required, but skipping them means memorizing every recipe by hand, which gets old fast with this many gear variants. The one hard incompatibility is Optifine, so plan your shader setup around a different renderer if you want lighting mods alongside this pack.

Epic Empires Mod FAQ

Where do I find the ancient iron and gold ingots? They spawn inside generated structures around your world and inside suspicious sand that you brush out. They never drop from normal ore, so explore and dig rather than mine.

Do I need AzureLib Armor to run it? Yes. AzureLib Armor is the required library that powers the custom 3D armor models, so both JAR files have to land in your mods folder together.

Can I use this mod with Optifine? No. The project page notes that Optifine is not compatible, and loading both causes visual glitches with the 3D armor models.

Is Epic Empires still maintained? The project is archived and the last release dates to November 2023. Check the project page for any current status notes, but no new updates have shipped since then. The gear and recipes still work fine on the versions it was built for.
