From the Shadows Reborn | Terrifying Mobs Mod
From the Shadows Reborn is a Minecraft mod that adds terrifying hostile mobs like Nehemoth and Froglin, plus crafted gear and enchantments to survive them.
From the Shadows Reborn turns the quiet parts of Minecraft into a fight for survival. It drops a handful of hand-animated supernatural mobs into your caves, swamps, and raids, then rewards the players skilled enough to bring them down with brewing materials, armor, and weapons you cannot get any other way. Think of it as a combat and exploration expansion built around four named threats, each with its own behavior, weakness, and loot.
Hostile Mobs You Will Face
Nehemoth
Nehemoth is the centerpiece of the mod and the first threat most players meet. It spawns rarely in dark caves and hits hard enough to shred unprepared armor.

Sunlight is its one weakness. Expose Nehemoth to daylight and it petrifies like stone, frozen in place until night returns or it steps back into darkness. Use that window to reposition or finish the fight.

Bringing one down yields crystallized blood, the base material for the mod's signature brewing recipes.

Froglin
Froglins live in Lush Caves and swamps. They leap around their terrain and can swallow smaller creatures whole, digesting them before spitting the remains back out.

Lightning is their weak point, so a well-timed channeling trident turns a crowded swamp into an easy farm. Froglins sometimes drop their legs on death, which brew into a Potion of Leaping.

Cleric
Clerics are Illager spellcasters that join raids. They spread plague and confusion across your party while closing in with deadly axes, so they demand the same priority you would give a Vindicator.

Bulldrogioth
A beach and swamp crustacean with a heavy shell and a slow, deliberate gait. Bulldrogioths trade speed for durability and fire coral spines that slow your natural healing, letting them whittle down anyone caught in the open.

Gear Brewed From the Hunt
Diabolium Armor
Brewing Nehemoth blood produces a material called Diabolium, the foundation of the mod's endgame gear. Forge it into Diabolium Armor for a set built to survive the same monsters that supplied it.

Devil Splitter
A fast-swinging melee weapon forged from Diabolium. It shines against demonic enemies, making it the natural pick for repeat Nehemoth hunts.

Thirst for Blood
Land a killing blow with a melee attack and the Devil Splitter charges a blood laser. Right-click to fire the stored shot, turning a close-quarters weapon into a ranged option when you need distance.

Crust Armor
Crafted from the shells Bulldrogioths drop, Crust Armor trades mobility for raw protection. It is the set you reach for when a beach fight turns into a siege.

Cleric Enchanted Mask
Slaying Clerics drops Suspicious Cloth. Stitch it into the Cleric Enchanted Mask to reduce the duration of harmful effects, a direct counter to the very plague those mobs inflict.

Enchantments
Three new enchantments round out the kit, each tuned to a specific threat:
- Retribution increases your damage against Illagers such as Clerics.
- Freezing layers frost damage onto your hits.
- Divinity sharpens your edge against Nehemoth specifically.
How to Install From the Shadows Reborn
This mod runs on Forge and NeoForge, so pick whichever loader your pack already uses. If you are starting fresh, our Minecraft Forge guide walks through installing the loader, and the NeoForge setup steps cover the newer fork.
- Install Forge or NeoForge for your game version, then launch that profile once so the mods folder appears.
- Download the matching JAR and drop it into
.minecraft/mods. - Start the game and confirm the mod appears in the mods list.
Because every mob here is hand-animated, expect a small client-side performance cost on lower-end hardware. If your frame rate dips, our general how to install Minecraft mods notes include tips on trimming conflicting addons.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is From the Shadows Reborn still being maintained? The most recent release is dated November 2025. The project was acquired by its current author, but there is no fixed update schedule. Check the project page for current status.
Do I need any other mods for it to work? No required dependencies are listed. Just the loader and the JAR.
Is it safe to add to an existing survival world? Yes, but back up your save first. New mobs will spawn in caves, swamps, and during raids, so a peaceful base can suddenly get dangerous.
How hard is the mod? It leans toward challenging. Nehemoth alone can end a hardcore run, so craft decent armor before going caving.
Can I use it alongside other mob mods? It plays well with most addons. For more ambient life alongside the horror, pair it with Critters and Companions or the Doctor Who Weeping Angels mod for extra tension.
