A Historical Armor Collection for Minecraft

Let's Forge Bronze and Iron brings early medieval and ancient warfare straight into your world. The mod is a Forge-only armor project that leans hard into historical authenticity, outfitting your character with bronze and iron gear pulled from real civilizations. If you have ever wanted to march into battle as a Roman legionary, a Varangian guardsman, or a samurai, this collection was built for exactly that fantasy. Every set is modeled with period detailing, so the armor reads as a curated historical roster rather than a generic stat swap.

Armor Sets Pulled From Antiquity and the Early Medieval Era

The roster spans cultures and centuries. You can equip complete looks drawn from the armies that shaped the ancient and medieval world.

Black Samurai

Red Samurai

Song Dynasty Armor

Sasanian Katafrakt

Byzantine Clibanary

Justinian's Guardsman

Varangian Guard

German Infantry

Centurion

Legionary

Roman General

Crafting the Gear

Let's Forge Bronze and Iron uses its own crafting system rather than dumping recipes onto the vanilla table. That keeps the gear feeling deliberate and gives each set a sense of effort behind it.

Because recipes are custom, grab Just Enough Items (JEI) so you can browse them in-game instead of guessing. It removes the friction of trial-and-error crafting.

Weapons, Shields, and What Else Is In Development

The project is not just armor. The roadmap has been steadily expanding the arsenal and the combat fantasy around it.

Bronze and Iron Weapons Plus Shields

A growing lineup of historically styled weapons and shields rounds out each loadout. Pair them with the Better Combat mod if you want richer attack animations, since this project plays nicely with it.

Mounted Combat as a Core Direction

A big focus of the mod is mounted warfare. The plan calls for formidable warhorses and armor sets tailored to cavalry, which changes how you approach protection and mobility during a charge.

Heavier Armor Debuffs, Still a Work in Progress

The dev is building weight-based debuffs so heavier armor carries a real tradeoff. The goal is to make your choice between a nimble skirmisher and a fully armored katafrakt genuinely strategic, not just cosmetic.

How to Install Let's Forge Bronze and Iron

This is a Forge mod, so the setup follows the standard Forge workflow. Get the full walk-through in our Minecraft Forge guide if you need it.

  1. Install Forge for your game version and launch the Forge profile once to generate its folders.
  2. Drop the mod's JAR file into the mods folder inside your Minecraft directory.
  3. Add JEI the same way so you can look up every recipe.
  4. Launch the Forge profile and the armor and weapons will be ready to craft.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Let's Forge Bronze and Iron actually add?

It adds a large roster of historically inspired bronze and iron armor sets, plus matching weapons and shields. The sets draw from cultures like Rome, Byzantium, the Sasanian Empire, and feudal Japan.

Do I need any other mods for it to work?

You need Forge, since this is a Forge-only project. JEI is strongly recommended so you can browse the custom recipes in-game. The mod also pairs well with combat overhauls like Better Combat and historically themed content such as Epic Samurais.

Is Let's Forge Bronze and Iron still being maintained?

The most recent release dropped in October 2024 (the Roman Empire Update, version 5.0). There has been no newer version since then, so treat the project as essentially feature-complete for now and check the project page for any current status.

Does the armor have special stats or debuffs?

Weight-based debuffs for heavier armor sets are listed as a work in progress, so currently the differences are mostly visual and thematic rather than a deep stat system.

Can I use this on a server?

Yes. The mod supports both client and server environments, so it works fine on a shared Forge server as long as everyone has it installed.
