Mouse Tweaks | Drag, Scroll and Move Items Fast
Mouse Tweaks makes inventory work fast, replacing vanilla right-click drag with smarter drags and scroll wheel item moves. Here is how it plays.
Moving a stack into a furnace in vanilla Minecraft means clicking slot by slot, and emptying a double chest one click at a time gets old fast. Mouse Tweaks rebuilds inventory handling around your mouse. It replaces the standard right-click drag with a smarter version, adds two left-click drags and turns the scroll wheel into a quick item mover. Around 66 million downloads later, it sits among the most trusted quality-of-life mods for the game. Setup takes a minute and everything runs on your client.
RMB Tweak: Faster Crafting Grid Dragging
Vanilla right-click dragging drops one item into each slot you sweep across, and a second pass over the same slot adds nothing. The RMB tweak keeps the familiar feel but removes that limit. Every pass over a slot places another item there, so you can loop a crafting grid as many times as you need to fill it. The RMBTweak setting controls it, and it is enabled by default.

Here is where it shines. Crafting a furnace takes eight cobblestone spread across the grid. Hold right click, swirl around the cells until every one has what it needs, and the whole placement happens in one continuous motion. The tweak also works when you drag over stacks already sitting in the grid, so topping off a half-filled recipe is just as quick.

LMB Tweaks: Bulk Pickup and Shift-Drag Moves
The first left-click tweak helps while you are holding an item. Hold your left button to pick something up, keep holding, and sweep the cursor across an inventory or a chest. Every item of that same type comes with it. Hold shift at the same time and those same-type items get shift-clicked into the target container instead, a painless way to dump sixty spare cobblestone into storage. The LMBTweakWithItem setting controls it.

The second tweak works with an empty cursor. Hold shift, press and hold your left button, then drag across an inventory. Everything you sweep over behaves as if you had shift-clicked it, flying into the other container slot by slot. Use it to empty your pockets into a chest, load a row of furnaces or clear a crafting table after a big batch job. The LMBTweakWithoutItem setting controls it.

Wheel Tweak Settings and Scroll Behavior
The wheel tweak is the quiet favorite. Scroll down on an item stack and its items move one by one into the other inventory, perfect for feeding a furnace exactly the amount of fuel or ore you want. Scroll up and items flow back, pulled into the stack under your cursor from the neighboring inventory. WheelTweak=1 turns it on.
Two extra settings shape the behavior. WheelSearchOrder decides which slots get checked first when you scroll up. Set to 1, the mod scans slots from last to first, set to 0 it scans first to last. WheelScrollDirection goes beyond a simple invert: setting it to 1 swaps the actions, so scrolling down pulls and scrolling up pushes. Setting it to 2 enables position-aware scrolling, where the mod pushes items into an inventory that sits above your selected slot and pulls from one that sits below.
InvMove pairs nicely here, since it lets you walk around while an inventory screen is open, and the two together make chest work nearly hands-free.
Config File, Compatibility and Modpacks
Everything above lives in one plain text file at .minecraft/config/MouseTweaks.cfg. The four toggles map one to one to the features: RMBTweak, LMBTweakWithItem, LMBTweakWithoutItem and WheelTweak. Set any of them to 0 and that single behavior reverts to standard controls. If the replaced right-click drag feels wrong to you, RMBTweak=0 hands back vanilla dragging while the rest of the tweaks keep working.
Compatibility is the strong point. The mod works with everything built on the standard vanilla container screens, which covers almost every modded GUI you will meet in real packs. Modpack authors are explicitly welcome to bundle it. Developers of unusual screens can integrate through the small built-in API, or use the @MouseTweaksIgnore and @MouseTweaksDisableWheelTweak annotations from the API documentation in the project's GitHub repository to opt specific slots or containers out. The code ships under a BSD 3-Clause license.
How to Install Mouse Tweaks
This is a client-side mod, so the whole process is about your own game and takes about a minute.
- Install a mod loader first. We have a full walkthrough for each supported one: Fabric setup guide, Forge setup guide and NeoForge setup guide. Any single loader is enough.
- Download the Mouse Tweaks jar from the official project page. The download table in this post lists the current builds with live version data, so the right file for your setup is easy to spot.
- Drop the jar into the mods folder inside your
.minecraftdirectory. Create that folder yourself if your loader has not made one yet. - Start the game with your loader's profile. The tweaks work right away, and there is no server-side piece to install or configure anywhere.
Mouse Tweaks FAQ
Is Mouse Tweaks client-side or server-side?
Purely client-side. It is required on your own installation, and the server side is unsupported because there is no server component at all. Nothing goes into your server files.
Can I use Mouse Tweaks in a modpack?
Yes. The author welcomes modpack inclusion, and the mod coexists well since it only changes how container screens react to mouse input.
How do I turn off a tweak I don't like?
Open .minecraft/config/MouseTweaks.cfg and set RMBTweak, LMBTweakWithItem, LMBTweakWithoutItem or WheelTweak to 0. Each line disables exactly one behavior and leaves the others untouched.
Is Mouse Tweaks still being updated?
Yes. The project is actively maintained, with the most recent update released in September 2026 and tens of millions of downloads behind it. Development happens in the public GitHub repository.
Once the drag sweeps and scroll moves are in your hands, going back to vanilla clicking feels rough. If you are still setting things up, our full guide to installing Minecraft mods covers loaders, the mods folder and the errors that pop up along the way.
