If you treat Minecraft like a photography hobby, Pyvtron VX deserves a spot in your shaderpacks folder. The pack leans hard into atmosphere, with volumetric fog, cumulus and cirrus clouds, water caustics and an ultra realistic rain effect. Around 93 thousand players have downloaded it so far, and the most recent release landed in January 2026. A naming note before you grab it, VX stands for Version X and the pack is not path traced. The performance cost is rated High on average hardware and Medium on a strong machine, so this one suits players who can pay the frame rate bill.

Volumetric Fog, Clouds and Rain That Feels Like Weather

Everything atmospheric in this pack attacks the same problem, the empty sky. Volumetric fog gives the air actual depth, so mist settles into valleys and low ground instead of hanging there as a flat gray sheet. Clouds come in two separate types, cumulus and cirrus. Cumulus are the puffy, low clouds you picture on a summer afternoon, while cirrus are the thin, wispy bands that float far higher up. With both types in the feature list, your sky gets real variety instead of one repeated texture stretched across the horizon. Then there is the rain, which the developer bills as ultra realistic. If you only test one thing after installing, wait for a thunderstorm and watch it roll in.

Water Caustics and the High Resolution Look

The second pillar is water and overall image quality. Caustics are the shifting light patterns you see dancing across the bottom of a swimming pool, and Pyvtron VX brings that effect to Minecraft's water. Coastline builds, ocean exploration and anything with a glass floor panel suddenly read completely differently. On top of that, the pack is built around high resolution graphics, so the final image holds up when you push your render distance or zoom in close. This is the difference between a capture that looks like a game and one that looks like a render.

Performance Impact and Hardware Requirements

Pyvtron VX is honest about its cost, and you should be honest about your PC. The developer rates the performance impact as High, dropping to Medium if you have a good computer. On the requirements side, an AMD CPU and an Nvidia GPU are recommended, and your graphics card needs to support OpenGL 4.6 or OpenGL 4. There is also a candid note from the developer, who currently only has access to Nvidia GPUs for testing, so results on Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs cannot be confirmed. If you run that kind of setup, expect to do your own testing before you commit the pack to a long-running world.

How to Install Pyvtron VX

Pyvtron VX needs a shader loader to run. The developer's own steps use Iris, and OptiFine is supported too. If you have never set one up, our Iris installation guide covers the full process, and the OptiFine guide handles the alternative. Once your loader is ready, the pack itself takes about two minutes.

  1. Download the Iris installer, run the .jar file and click Install.
  2. Download the Pyvtron VX pack from the download table on this page.
  3. Open the Minecraft Launcher, select the Iris profile and start the game.
  4. In game, open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaders, then Shaderpacks Folder.
  5. Drag the downloaded Pyvtron VX file into that folder.
  6. Back in the shader menu, select Pyvtron VX and let it load.
  7. Enjoy the new sky.

One housekeeping note before you start editing or sharing files. The pack ships under the developer's own license, and you are asked to read it before modifying or redistributing anything.

Pyvtron VX FAQ

Does Pyvtron VX work on servers?

No. It is a client side pack and the server side is listed as unsupported. Everything renders on your own machine, so the server you join does not need to run anything special.

How heavy is Pyvtron VX on FPS?

The developer rates the impact as High on typical hardware and Medium on a good computer. Pair that with the requirements, an Nvidia GPU and AMD CPU are recommended, plus a graphics card with OpenGL 4.6 or OpenGL 4 support.

Does Pyvtron VX support modded dimensions?

Yes. The developer publishes an official guide for adding support for modded dimensions, so custom dimensions from your mods can be wired up to the pack.

Is Pyvtron VX still maintained?

The most recent release came out in January 2026. The download table on this page lists the latest file, and older versions are available on the developer's own website.

If you want to compare before you commit, we have also covered the separate Pyvtron Shaders pack, along with Bliss Shaders and BSL Shaders. Install VX, wait for the weather to turn, and see how close your world gets to the picture in your head.
