Happy Ghast | Rideable Ghast Mount Mod
Happy Ghast Mod adds the rideable flying Ghast from Minecraft Live to your world, with a taming progression, colored harnesses, and multiplayer mounts.
The Happy Ghast Mod recreates the friendly flying Ghast teased at Minecraft Live and lets you raise one from a Nether block into a rideable mount. It drops the full progression into your world, from finding a Dried Ghast in the Soul Sand Valley to soaring above your base with friends on board. The rideable flying Ghast is the headline feature, and the taming chain behind it gives the mod its charm.

How the Happy Ghast Progression Works
The mod adds a complete lifecycle that turns a Nether block into a loyal flying companion. Each stage gates the next, so you work for your mount instead of spawning it in.
Dried Ghast Block

The Dried Ghast sits in the Soul Sand Valley waiting to be collected. Drop it into water in the Overworld and it cycles through four undrying phases over roughly five minutes. Once the phases finish it spawns a Ghastling, the baby stage of your future mount.
Ghastling

The Ghastling is a fun-sized Ghast and it acts like one. Feed it snowballs to tame and grow it. Keep throwing snow and the Ghastling matures into a full Happy Ghast you can ride.
Happy Ghast

Once grown, the Happy Ghast becomes your personal flying mount. Equip a crafted harness on it and you can climb on as the pilot, or hop off and walk across its back as a floating platform. Up to four players can ride at once, which makes it a great shared transport for group builds and far flung expeditions.
Crafting and Riding the Harness
Before you fly, you need a harness. The mod ships every wool color as a harness variant, so you can match your Ghast to your build palette.
Harness Recipe
The crafting recipe shown below uses leather, glass, and one block of wool. The wool color sets the harness color, which gives you the sixteen color variants.

- 3x Leather
- 2x Glass
- 1x Blue or Purple Wool (any wool color works)
Equip the finished harness on a tamed Happy Ghast and you are ready to take off.
Installing the Happy Ghast Mod
The mod runs client and server side, so it needs to be present on both for multiplayer worlds.
- Install your preferred loader first. The mod is built for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, so pick the one your pack already uses. Our Fabric overview, Forge overview, and NeoForge project guide cover the setup, and the general how to install Minecraft mods walkthrough works for any of them.
- Drop the downloaded JAR into your mods folder.
- Launch the matching loader profile and load your world.
If you want a gentler flight model while you learn, pair it with a flight focused mod like Blast Travel Reborn or Aviator Dreams.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stand on the Happy Ghast without riding it?
Yes. Step off the saddle seat and you can walk on the Ghast's back as a floating platform, which is handy for mid air building and sightseeing.
How many players can ride one Happy Ghast?
Up to four players can mount the same Ghast at once, so it works well as a group shuttle to distant bases or looted structures.
Do I need any other mods installed?
No required dependencies are listed. Just the loader and the Happy Ghast JAR are enough to get the progression working in a new or existing world.
Where do Dried Ghasts spawn?
Dried Ghasts generate in the Soul Sand Valley in the Nether. Mine one and carry it to the Overworld, then soak it in water to start the undrying phases.
Can I recolor the harness after crafting it?
The harness color comes from the wool you use in the recipe. Craft a new harness with a different wool color to swap the look, since all sixteen wool colors are supported.
