What the Kobolds! Mod Adds

Kobolds! drops a full underground civilization of tiny lizard people into your world. These kobolds live in dens that generate beneath forests and other biomes, and unlike most vanilla mobs they are genuinely useful neighbors. You can trade with the friendly ones, breed them with Amethyst Shards, recruit them as warriors, and watch them fight off the usual Overworld threats that wander too close to home.

The mod sits somewhere between a villager overhaul and a world generation expansion. Expect new structures underground, a desert resting place full of skeletal cousins, and a jungle pirate faction with its own captain and deals.

Breeding Kobolds and Recruiting Warriors

Friendly kobolds love Amethyst Shards. Feed two of them shards near a kobold warrior and they will breed, which is the main way to grow a thriving den. Warriors matter here because they act as guards, so keeping at least one nearby keeps your population safe.

Any kobold can also be upgraded into a warrior with an iron axe. Warriors stand their ground against hostile mobs and protect the den, though they refuse to trade. The split between traders and defenders is what makes a kobold settlement feel alive.

Trading With Kobold Enchanters and Engineers

The friendly kobolds open a trade menu when you offer emeralds, and the deals go beyond basic food and tools. Kobold enchanters are the standout, selling potions and the Prospector enchantment, a unique pickaxe upgrade you cannot get from any vanilla source. Kobold engineers cover practical stock like coal and tools.

This trading loop gives you a reason to seek out dens instead of just raiding them, and it pairs well with other mob overhauls like Goblin Traders or an expansion like Better Villages if you want a busier, more populated world.

Pirate Kobolds in the Jungle

A separate faction of pirate kobolds spawns in jungle biomes. Their captain runs a trade post and pays emeralds for desirable loot like gold tools, making the jungle a worthwhile detour rather than just a wood source.

Dens, Resting Places, and Pirate Camps

World generation is where the mod earns its Adventure and World Generation tags. Three structure families show up across your world.

Kobold Dens Underground

The main structures spawn beneath forests and come in small, large, mountain, and pirate variations. Each one is a small dungeon-like den populated by kobolds, and the larger variants are worth exploring for the trade opportunities inside.

Kobold Resting Places

These desert structures contain skelebolds, the skeletal relatives of the living kobolds. They are a distinct structure type from the underground dens, so desert exploration gets its own reward.

Zombolds and Skelebolds

When a kobold is killed by any zombie it turns into a zombold. The good news is that zombolds can be cured the same way you cure a zombie villager, so you do not lose your population permanently. Skelebolds are the desert variants found resting inside the structures above.

How to Install the Kobolds! Mod

Because this is a Forge and NeoForge mod, installation follows the standard loader workflow.

1. Install Minecraft Forge or NeoForge for your game version, then launch that profile once so the folders are created.
2. Download the matching JAR for your loader and drop it into the mods folder inside your Minecraft directory.
3. Launch the game with the Forge or NeoForge profile and the kobolds will begin generating in new chunks.
